All the Acorns on the Forest Floor tells multiple overlapping stories about growing up, creating a family, having children, infidelity, growing sick and growing old. 

The story is weaved in almost a poetic, looking from afar kind of way. Despite learning and experiencing some of the darkest and deepest troubles, secrets or desires of the characters, I felt apart from them. And while this typically lessens my enjoyment of a story, in this book it worked. 

This is an emotionally engaging story, without getting too emotional. Instead, it's emotional in a way that you are seeing an overlying sameness between starkly different lives. You are seeing the similarities and contrast through a lens of calm and quiet understanding. 

I honestly could not tell you what I truly gained from this book. But I am glad that I did.
