All the Tides of Fate: 4/5 I'm unsure why these reviews are so mixed. I absolutely loved this second and last book to the All the Stars and Teeth duology. I really liked All the Stars and Teeth and was nervous to read All the Tides of Fate because some reviews said they were disappointed in the second book, but I really thought it was fabulous. All the Tide of Fate takes place a few months after All the Stars and Teeth ends. As the new queen, Amora is trying to piece back together the broken kingdom of Vasidia and still is haunted by the final battle of the previous book (No spoilers here). As much as Amora tries to make right the fault of previous rulers, there is growing unrest in the kingdom, and Amora battles with the truth, versus what she wants. The book opens with Amora's advisors telling her to tour the kingdom to find a king, and a husband, to hopefully unite Vasidia once more. Of course, knowing Amora, she has another plan in mind that features a magical object, rumored to break her curse and bring back those who she has lost. She agrees to this mission and sets sail with her old crew, Bastian, Vataea, and Ferrick, and some newcomers, Shanty (I love her sm), and Casem in search of a "husband" and magical object. Gosh, I loved this book so much. I feel even more in love with Amora, because although she is strong and a badass female protagonist, I feel she is also realistic. So many times I get annoyed at the MC for repeating old mistakes or never learning/brooding over the same thing over and over. Amora is not like this. She actually listens to her advisors and knows when she's wrong and grows over a matter of chapters instead of books. I really loved Amora's character growth and arc. I think she is a beautifully written character. I also want to point out how unproblematic this book is. Yes, this is definitely enemies to lovers, but it is done right. WITH CONSENT I MEAN. Both books in this series have such a casual emphasis on consent that does not go unnoticed. I'm not talking about insinuating consent from actions, but full 100% verbal consent. I just really appreciated those small details that we don't see very often with romance. Besides the consent and "steamy" scenes, I also thought the romance plot was REALLY good. Bastiaan and Amora's relationship is definitely twisty and weird but it also grows. Too many enemies to lovers relationships are stagnant for so long. I don't mean slow burn, but truly stay where you are and no one budges. This is the perfect mix of give and take for me on both sides. It's full of compromise and isn't super toxic! Love it! My one criticism is that some pieces and plot points were not sufficiently explained, and I found myself confused at the beginning with where we were picking up from. Furthermore, some plot points were introduced and then forgotten a few chapters later. Again, I think if this book were just a tad longer I think it could have been great and these plot holes could have been fixed. Once again though, I don't think this really should deter you from reading it since it doesn't interfere with the main plot. Overall, this was a great ending to the duology and probably one of the best YA dulologies I've read to date. They really surprised me but are honestly fantastic, full of adventure, plot, and a great romance! Every character and scene (the gambling den specifically) is one you learn to love. This book will SURPRISE you, and captivate you, and keep you on the edge of your seat. Filled with plot twists, heartbreak, understanding, and forgiveness I promise you'll love this journey as much as I did.

I started this duology with the intention of it being an easy and light hearted read during my exams. And for the most part it was, there were pirates and magic, mermaids and adventure. What more could you ask for? What I didn’t expect was to literally have my heart ripped to shreds. Every Character was so rounded and will now always hold a special place in my heart. There aren’t many books that make me cry but this one sure did.

Its a good book.

I struggled reading this one. I loved the excitement and the tension of the first book. The storyline in this one felt a bit weak and the pacing felt off. I felt so disconnected from the main character. The best part of this book was the writing style itself, the unyielding love of all the side characters for the main character which was a bit odd given her behavior and choices, and Bastian…which we needed more of!! I didn’t love this one but I also didn’t hate. It’s just meh.

Of course, the final book in a series will have heartbreaking moments but I wasn't prepared for this. That final letter? Absolutely shattered. Not fair Adalyn Grace. Not. Fair. As far as series enders goes, this one had just the right amount of tension and high stakes situation. There was also the obligatory romance that both frustrates and satiates. I got exactly what I hoped for in the one way that I didn't want it to happen. There was sacrifice in exchange for happiness and as a result my happiness feels bittersweet. Definitely picking up more by this author in the future. Read this series if you're looking for badass female leads who aren't afraid to own their ferocity and charismatic love interests. The potential love triangle in book one was frustrating but the way that it was eventually resolved works for me. Yes and please.

2.5/5 stars Oh god where do I even start... this book was painful, and not in a good way. I admit that the plot was interesting and I like how Amora had to struggle to be a queen but she went through such a character regression that I can't even forgive her at the end. The only thing keeping me from rating even lower is the side characters and how loyal they are, and how they stick to Amora even if she's being insufferable and secretive and selfish. Yes, Amora is dealing with loss and having to deal with rising to power but the way she acts is just plain terrible, especially since she acts like she's the only one who suffers and lashes out at everyone, which puts them in danger and being so, so incredibly selfish up until 92% mark is so fucking annoying that I can't forgive her. And the ending was good enough that I give this an extra half star but oh my god why are my favorite side characters gets an ending like that while Amora barely suffers the consequences of her actions.

** spoiler alert ** All The Stars and Teeth was a beautiful, exciting adventure fantasy filled with pirates, princesses, and magic curses. It gave me high expectations for the sequel and my gods… This book lived up to every single one of them. It gave us more pirates. It gave us mermaids and time magic, boats and fake romance, real love and ancient gods. All wrapped into a beautiful fantasy novel with the most amazing cast of characters. Ferrick, my heart. I will never recover.

I liked book two more than one but overall a great doulogy! Powerful female protagonist, pirate love interest and found family trope. Do I need to say more? ;) (Also, very interesting world building and a great ending, that just made scence)

This wasn’t a bad book. I think many lovers of YA would enjoy the story. However I found that I forgot so many things from book one and didn’t care enough to go back and reread. Many of the things in this book didn’t hit me as hard because of the gaps in knowledge. I also found myself not overly fond of the MC.

All the Tides of Fate is a pretty satisfying conclusion to the adventurous and swashbuckling All the Stars and Teeth duology (given the cliffhangers and plot twists at the end of the first book). In the second installment, Adalyn Grace focused more on the politics within the worldbuilding as well as the emotional aspects of the characters. So here in All the Tides of Fate, I get to know more about the islands that Amora and her crew visited. I found the description of these islands really colourful and I also love how each of them are distinctive in their own ways. I think the underlying dangers in these islands also artfully showed that there are political tensions brewing. I feel like Adalyn Grace did a pretty good job at exploring deeper into the worldbuilding without going to the info-dumping extreme. The writing is easy to follow through but also gave enough details for me to visualise the kingdom of Visidia! Another welcoming aspect of the sequel is the heavier character focus. Amora's narrative explores how she copes with loss and grief - a reminder that healing from emotional trauma is a long process. Similarly, Vataea's and Bastian's narratives are also very well fleshed out with much more complexity. Through the main characters, we get a pretty good contrast of how each of them processes their emotions and pains. So beneath the adventurous plot line, All the Tides of Fate scratches deep beneath the surface and explores the messy side of going through trauma. And yet, these crews are an unexpected family who supported each other despite the hardships and odds against them. While I love the worldbuilding and the messaging, I personally have a few concerns with the character dramas and some of the plots. With the character dramas, I think these got pretty repetitive towards the end and I think a few could be cut. Similarly, there were a few places in the plots where too much were shown and I was more or less able to guess where things were going (this is partially because I have read quite a lot of YA Fantasy books over the years). These aren't really major issues though as I nevertheless found All the Tides of Fate quite a fun read, it's just that I didn't think some of these plots were particularly memorable despite the emotional appeal. Despite these issues, I think All the Tides of Fate is a pretty decent and emotionally touching conclusion to the duology. If you're into something magical and adventurous, this duology is certainly worth checking out! N.B. This novel contains following content warnings: blood / gore, poisoning, alcohol, vomiting, weapons, and loss of loved ones (3.5 stars out of 5)

*I got this book for review from the publisher for my honest thoughts* I really loved this follow up book to the first book in this series. I found this book tackled so many new issues and loved how it occurred. I really loved how this book explored and expanded on the found family elements but also added a quest element. I also really loved how this book tackled grief so effectively. It was light hearted read but with some emotional punches that really kicked me in the emotions. I really loved the romance and the book and felt it like it was not the main focused but love it. I feel like the end was so well crafted and really exited to read more by this author in the future.

"make this life everything it should be." 4.5 heartbroken stars. all the stars and teeth was one of my favourite reads of 2020, and it's follow-up did not disappoint. to me the first book was all adventure, this second book however, was much more character-driven. we follow a protagonist who feels broken after the events of the first book, and who pushes away those closest to her as a result. i found myself resonating with and understanding where she was coming from rather than being annoyed by her behaviour, which speaks to grace's skills as a writer. amora's grief felt reasonable rather than just a ploy to further the plot. i am a bit sad that my favourite character, bastian, had to take the back seat in this instalment, but that too felt like it made sense to the story. speaking of sadness, i won't put any spoilers here but chapter 35 utterly broke me, i can hardly remember the last time i sobbed that hard to a book. again, though, it made sense!! the sacrifice the author did in that chapter was precisely what was needed for the story to have the closure it deserved, and the ending and epilogue was perfect because of it. i'm already longing to reread this duology and reunite with the crew of the keel haul for another adventure. "grieve, but don't lose yourself to your mourning."

All the Tides of Fate had such beautiful writing, the flow of the story had the perfect pacing and I was very excited to be joining the Keel Haul crew on another adventure. I did struggle at the beginning of the book though, only able to recall the barest of details about All the Stars and Teeth. It needed some more recaps dropped in it and things explained a bit better. As the story progressed I was able to piece some of it together, but I know even now I’m missing some big details. What I really loved about the first book was how we got to truly see this world that was created. In book two we get to continue that journey and see some of the places we didn’t before. The worldbuilding was fantastic and I felt like I could really see some Avatar influences in the story. We also got to explore what multiple magics meant for these places and people that maybe weren’t thriving when we last saw them. I felt like the plot was a tad all over the place at times. I know Amora needed to right the wrongs of her ancestors and restore soul magic, but I was kinda confused why one couldn’t go down without the other. Why did she need her magic back to tell the truth? It was all wrapped up extremely fast and a tad too conveniently. I also had a hard time believing Amora would waver between being selfish or putting her kingdom above all. We know she’s a good ruler and loves her people, so her “dilemma” just wasn’t believable. The romance was pretty much nonexistent except for two scenes and I missed it. Amora and Bastian had this connection in book one that was lost in the second book. Understandable due to the whole soul splitting thing, but I missed it nonetheless. While I loved All the Tides of Fate, I found it unnecessary. It was a good book but redundant. I felt the plot could’ve been wrapped up in the first book if it had been a bit longer. That being said I did still really enjoy it. The Keel Haul crew is one of my favorite friend groups and they had such great chemistry and love for each other. The story was fresh and well written with a great adventure that I didn’t want to put down.

Tides picks up a few months after Stars and attempts to get you caught up on what happened in between. This book is still pretty brutal and gory, as with the previous book, but it's nothing excessive. The romance was a little lackluster to me; the plot felt like it was intending to take the chemistry between the main characters in one direction and then just didn't deliver anything at all. While, yes, the chemistry was there, I felt kind of let down that it wasn't explored more. Amora's motivation made sense, but it was pretty jarring being in her head at times. I do like how the story was resolved and where the characters ended up by the end. Overall, I am pleased with this series.

I’m sorry I’ll come back to this when I can see without tears in my eyes. What a stupidly perfect book that tore my heart out. edit: As you can see this book just completely and utterly destroyed me. Legit might have to charge Adalyn Grace for my therapy one day. I ADORED All the Stars and Teeth, I blew through it in a day. So I pre-ordered All the Tides of Fate and did the exact same thing. This book picks off where ATTOF left off, with Amora having to cope with the both the loss of her father and the loss of her powers. Readers are blessed with one more mighty adventure with Keel Haul's beloved crew. The way that Grace writes about grief and loss hit me to the core. I am so terribly sad that this series is over but what an absolutely beautiful, yet tear inducing, ending and I wouldn't have it any other way.

While I absolutely adored All the Stars and Teeth, All the Tides of Fate was a bit on the disappointing side. It was an enjoyable, fast-paced read, but... it was repetitive. It felt like the same book as ATSAT, but with less high stakes. I honestly felt like (minus one thing) ATSAT wrapped up well and could have been a standalone. That being said, the writing is still gorgeous, the world is lush and dangerous, and the characters were still lovable. I enjoyed reading it. I just didn’t feel like the sequel was necessary when everything could have been resolved in one book.

Full review on my blog, Storied Adventures! This is a tough one for me because I really enjoyed the first book. This one just didn't pack as much oomph. Liked: All of the side characters, especially Vataea! And I loved reading about the other islands and the magic they can do there! The writing was really good too. Plus there was heavy grief, stress, and loss dealt with. Disliked: It was slow, and I really didn't like Amora. Bastian deserved better. She was a brat.
