This is an absolutely fascinating book for presenting some of the flaws in the way scientists theorize about what dinosaurs and their prehistoric-era co-inhabitants look like and how they act. Without making any potential blunders by definitively speculating that certain animals may be misinterpreted, they simply provide examples (some believable and some outlandish) that give you pause and force you to think about the predictions that have been made.

In the second half of the book they take this a step further, and approach modern-day mammals the same way paleoartists approach dinosaurs, attempting to “shrink wrap” the bodily tissues that give a creature shape around its skeleton. These results are thought provoking and hilarious.
