i genuinely really love this book. it gives a feeling when watch a movie on december, you know, the cozyness? like in a holiday for christmas and new year's eve. i totally enjoyed this book in every single page. took a long time for me to read (yes, i know—totally aware) but honestly it's just my commitment issue for something. but actually, after hanging this book for few months, i finished the rest of the book just in 3 days. this is when i know the book is really my style, very, very much. it's so page-turner and one thing that i love about this book also is how it's so fast-paced, but somehow there's a lot of explanations for things that i might don't even think about. when i first read the book, i wondered about "where's the mystery case? where's the knives out part?" it's like totally a romcom with enemies-to-lovers trope. but after i reached the part when i said, "oh, okay, wait a minute..." then i couldn't focus on any other books in my cr but this book. the dynamic between maggie and ethan is very much romcom coded. those romantic lines were so cheesy sometimes, but i totally love that cause who am i without being romantic in cheesy and cringey anyway? i love smiling like a crazy person while nervously waiting for the plot twist. and when i knew about the plot twist, then i knew why ally specifically said it has knives out vibes. this book is just so unique cause you can somehow read the book with a mystery plot but the romance is not a sub-plot—it's LITERALLY about maggie and ethan. this book also talks about what they've been through. you might pissed about ethan but once you knew the reason, you'll find them very very cute, even from the first time they met. it was really cute for me cause ethan wyatt is such a yearning man. lol, big credits for the book when the male character is yearning for the female main character. and maggie! i love her character so much. cause she's so smart, knows about herself and her worth, but somehow she's not afraid to show what she actually wants to ethan, like, expressing love in some kind of cheesy and cringey way. i love her so much for that. it makes me want to have my own version of ethan wyatt as well ;-) 4.75 for this book. 🌟 a very recommended book to read on december, especially if you love romcom with unique plot.

 the “i’m so small and he’s so big” damsel in distress, male protector “i’m the one who takes the bullet” thing was overplayed in this book. i was rolling my eyes. this was an okay mystery but definitely predictable. i don’t think people who love mysteries would love this book because it was like 80% fake enemies to lovers and 20% mysteries. but even romance lovers might not love this book because the romance was just .. blah. incredibly heavy handed with the tropes and not even trying to hide it, like he actually said at one point “touch her and i kill you”. it really took me out of the book.
