Well. This book. I sorta hated it, but I couldn’t stop reading it. Plot: First, lets just talk about the premise. Trolls. TROLLS. Why would you go with TROLLS? Not internet trolls, but honest-to-god trolls. Except, they’re not honest-to-god trolls either. They look exactly like humans. EXCEPT—they all have curly brown hair and dark brown eyes. Hold up—I have curly brown hair and dark brown eyes. AM I A TROLL? Also, they have magical powers. You know, like being able to move things with their mind, control the wind, make people do shit by just thinking it. Well, now they sound more like witches. Oh, and they live in there own personal secluded town in the middle of nowhere, and they keep normal humans out by using they’re mind-control powers. Sounding more and more like witches, you know? I am actually very disappointed in Amanda Hocking, she said trolls, when she meant WITCHES!!! Liar. *pout* Here’s a quote, directly from the books, by the troll queen, on the subject of trolls: “We are beings closely related to humans, but more in tune with ourselves.” REALLY? No way. You’re saying that trolls are more like trolls then they’re like humans? First of all, I am not stupid. Second of all, THEY ARE NOT LIKE TROLLS! Your trolls are the least troll-like trolls in the history of trolls! The whole troll-fail aside, the book was actually sort of not good but very catching, you know? The main character, Wendy discovers she is a troll princess and is swept away to the troll kingdom where things happen to her. We also meet a lot of characters, which I will segue into now. Characters: Elora: sort of a bitch. No, no. Really a bitch. Finn: WHY??? I hate this character! (talk more about in the romance section) Matt: I actually liked Matt. When Wendy left with Finn, I was like, “Matt had better show up later, because he’s just about the best part of this book.” I loved how overprotective he was of Wendy, and I love the reason WHY, that we find out. (It has to do troll magic) Tove: I LOVE TOVE. HE IS THE COOLEST PERSON. Rhys: I really like Rhys to. He was just so much fun. Wendy: for most of the book, I was IN WENDY’S CORNER. Totally supporting her and her thoughts (except her thoughts about Finn) and her actions. Like, when we first went to the troll kingdom, and she asked “What is a Mansklig?” and then Finn said. “Elora will tell you,” and then two pages later, she asked Rhys “What’s a Mansklig?” and he said, “Finn should really tell you that,” and then she asked Elora, “WHAT THE HELL IS A MANSKLIG???” and Elora said, “I don’t have time to explain this all to you," and so on and so forth, like TEN TIMES she had to ask what a mansklig was, and then answer was a mansklig is just a normal human being. REALLY. REALLY, ELORA. YOU HAD TIME TO SAY YOU COULD EXPLAIN IT TO HER, BUT YOU COULDN’T SAY THAT? Romance: I will use two choice quotes from the book to help me illustrate my point. First, I will set the scene. Wendy has known Finn for two days. He has just broken into her bedroom in the middle of the night and told her that she is a troll princess. This is what she is thinking: If he hadn’t been so attractive standing in front of me in me in my bedroom, it would’ve been easier to ignore him. And if I hadn’t felt this ludicrous connection with him, I would’ve thrown him out right away. Alright. The Man BROKE INTO YOUR BEDROOM. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. AND HE”S TELING YOU THAT YOU ARE A TROLL PRINCESS. If he’s not perv, then at he’s at the very least crazy. Throwing him out is GOOD IDEA. Fortunately, she did end up throwing him out, and told him to leave her alone, yet she couldn’t dismiss her suspicions that he was right and she was actually a n evil troll princess, so she talked to her mom, and her mom was all like “YEAH, you’re an evil troll.” At this point, it has been TWO DAYS since that bedroom thing. I already felt the sting of Finn’s absence. Why hadn’t I gone with him? I was more attracted to him than I had ever been to anyone, and it wasn’t just physical. In general, people didn’t interest me, but he did. First off, it has been TWO DAYS. You’re feeling the ‘sting of his absence’ after two days. Just putting some perspective on this. Why didn’t you go with him? Well, it was because he was crazy perv who BROKE INTO YOUR ROOM in the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT and told you that you are A TROLL PRINCESS. That’s why. And I don’t care how damn attractive he is, it doesn’t excuse that. Honestly, I think I’m most annoyed about this because the entirety of Finn’s character development is “OHMYGERD, he’s SO HOT.” Also, whenever Wendy thought about him she used the word ‘attractive’ and that just annoyed me. No score, but I'd say this is solid three star quality.
