I was able to read this for free thanks to Net Galley, although that does not affect my opinion of the actual book. I picked this book up after falling in love with the cover, title, and description. Unfortunately, it took me a couple of chapters to really get into it. I know I’m not the smartest person to exist, however the author used quite a few words that made no sense to me and probably could have been changed for an easier read. There was also a lot of bad language, which I don’t think was necessary every time. The chemistry between the two main characters didn’t feel right either. This book was a miss for me.

The Black Cat Stalker has been causing panic in the Louisiana swamp town of Skull Hollow.  When a young girl, Courtney, goes missing, rescue specialist, Easton Crew and his LINX group are called in to help find the girl. Hypnotherapy specialist, profiler, and psychologist, Dr. Mia Frost is called in to help create a profile of The Black Cat Stalker.  Once Courtney is found, Mia offers her services to help Courtney describe her rapist and deal with the trauma, but the more Mia learns, the more she sees similarities between Courtney's case and incidents in her own past.  Little does Mia know but she has a stalker of her own.  

Buried Deception is an excellent romantic suspense/mystery.  The descriptions of the settings and characters creates an atmosphere that draws the reader in and doesn't let go until the very end of the book.  The author uses the common elements of romantic suspense masterfully to create feelings of uncertainty and anticipation.  Even though the romance doesn't inhabit as much of the story as the mystery, it's still very evident in the plot.  Unfortunately the conclusion of the story and some of the character motivations don't reach the same level as the rest of the story.  Overall, however, Buried Deception is a very effective romance with enough suspense and tension to make it difficult to put down and is well worth the read.

OMW, another superb series starter.  The psychological thriller, murder mystery and romance all flow seamlessly together in this tightly woven story!

Skull Hollow is about to become as infamous as Berry Springs for his homicide rate.  A rash of attacks on a hiking trail has escalated to a serious assault on a young woman.  The town drafts in Dr Mia Frost to help profile the offender.  However, Mia may be hiding her own secrets - secrets that make her fear that her own traumatic past is resurfacing and linked to the new series of crimes.

Easton Crew, is a Marine Veteran and now runs an elite tracking company in Skull Hollow.  He has traumas of his own to deal with and dealing with the oddball, psychologist is sparking all his protective instincts.  He knows she's keeping secrets, secrets that have made her the wary, stubborn, fiercely independent firecracker he's fast falling for. 

Mia is the best advertisement for her own work with hypnotherapy and PTSD. She still feels the effects decades later of her own horrific assault and her disassociative amnesia means that she knows she is missing vital information. She believes she is a faker, not worthy of everything she has accomplished but I fully believe that Mia is a survivor, she made her own path to recovery.  She is not perfect, she makes mistakes but she owns them and never tried to make excuses for her failings.

Easton is the perfect blend of a fierce warrior, protective hero, and empathetic lover.  He may think he is the terrifying, stoic, warrior but he hides a soft heart and empathetic core.

I eagerly await more in this series as Eastons colleagues are all suitably intriguing and I can't wait to see what trouble they find themselves in.
