Rainbow

Rainbow

Rainbow Khumalo was born on the eve of the Rainbow Nation, which is the name for modern day, racially diverse South Africa. She is a muddled-up, mixed-race teenager. Life is happy and uneventful, apart from the fact that Rainbow has big questions. Why does her father have a constant stream of girlfriends? Who and where is her mother? And why did her mother abandon Rainbow as a baby? Life is a mystery until one day she discovers a packet of letters, hundreds of them, all hidden away inside her grandmothers window seat. For years her British mother has been sending cards and letters to Rainbow and no one told her. Reading through the letters, Rainbow pieces together her mothers remarkable story. Both her parents grew up worlds apart in the volatile and explosive South Africa of the sixties. Theirs was a love story that transcended race. Now Rainbow must face understanding the past and reuniting her family. About the Author: Annabelle Lewis was born and grew up in England.
