This book seems to embody "threshold concepts"--concepts/theories in which one cannot further their learning fundamentally in a discipline/subject/topic without passing through this particular "checkpoint." Sen's writing is not always easily understandable, but the candor in the writing makes up for it, and the ideas presented--socioeconomic, political, ethical--illuminate the vital importance of looking at development through interdisciplinary and endogenous means.
