“Breathe, Cade,” Deianira whispered on his left, standing closer. “Breathe and follow through.”

The click of her heels were all that could be heard in the silent ballroom as she descended the center staircase.

i had such high expectations because of how highly everyone spoke about this book and although i didn’t necessarily get five stars out of this read i still liked it quite a bit and settled for 3.5. 

so let’s start with what i liked. i loved Cade as a character, he was genuinely someone i enjoyed reading about. the relationship between him and Deianira was so cute at times and it made for an enjoyable experience. 

i also enjoyed reading about the side characters and seeing how the next books were set up by the events that happened in this one. 

now the bad side. i’d gone in expecting a slow burn romance but it was more insta love than anything. the pacing of the relationship didn’t really make sense to me because at times i wondered why they even fell in love. 

i also think the world building could’ve been a little more detailed or clear. there was such a mix between different time periods that it got a bit confusing.

all in all i think it was quite a decent read. book two however? i started reading it immediately i finished this one and that’s a whole different thing for me to start getting into, and i mean that in a good way
