I have read a couple of books from Amulya Malladi before and enjoyed her style of writing, which runs around Indian families, food, fun and their complex relationships.

The Mango Season is a story of a Tamil Brahmin girl who moved to US for higher education and work, falls in love with a American Guy, gets engaged and moves in, without sharing with her parents.
After seven years, she is coming back to her homeland to give the news, which will break their hearts. What entails is a roller-coaster ride where her family insists on a typical arranged marriage.

This book is totally entertaining, giving us glimpses of contemporary India, where many women are still dealing with issues like female infanticide, dowry and standing up for themselves.

I was delighted to find some traditional South-Indian recipes mentioned in-between the chapters and I might try a few of them soon.
