Loved, loved, loved this series! 

These novels are beautifully written and every novel just keeps getting better than the last. This is definitely a series I want to go back and re-read once I have some more free time. I thought the characters were just fabulous and I can't wait to see where the storyline heads after this masterful ending.

I loved this book overall. It was action-packed, and poor Kricket barely got the chance to rest. It was one sucker punch after another, and I can't wait to read the final book in September!

Some things bothered me, though. This book continues the events of the first. Kricket thought she was a normal girl from Chicago, but after being pulled into the parallel world of Ethar, her presence seems to cause all hell to break loose. What bothered me is that no one held Kricket accountable for all the hell-breaking-loose stuff. The people who did were immediately considered evil. However, I would think that would be a decent reaction from someone meeting her for the first time. It makes sense that the people who already like her wouldn't hold that against her, though. So besides that, I really enjoyed the story. It's a great series, and while it's cheesy at parts, it's very well done and such a fantastic story. 

I love Kricket. She's so spunky and fierce, but she has moments of vulnerability too. She's a very well written and interesting main character, and she's definitely my favorite character. Although, honestly, I do kind of like Kyon. The guy is the main villain, but he's also the product of his world, and I think had he been raised differently or been from somewhere else, he would've been the good guy. And that's what makes him such a wonderful villain.

As you could gather from the status update, I was very happy that there were very few mentions of Kricket's luck in the physical department. I liked how the story mostly focused on her trying to cope with Kyon's madness. 

And just for the record. THAT DUDE IS SO CRAZY. But that's part of why this story holds so much appeal to me. Him, being the main antagonist is a pretty cool one. He has this sick thought that he owns Kricket. You see, all priestesses like her, are given off to what equals to a 'lord' or something. That's the way of the Alameeda, the people she's half part of. So, this guy Kyon thinks that because she's supposedly meant to be with him he'll have to train her to obey him and not to question him. o.o 50 shades anyone?

On the not so brigher side, something weird happened that I'm still not sure if I liked or not. Normally, the tension in a story escalates into the climax, yes? But with Sea of Stars, it started with the tension already on the roof and then slowly began to recede. However, since Kricket remained badass the whole time, I couldn't really get mad XD.

4.5 (reread 1/2/18: the rating sticks! still love all the action in this one)

Kricket finds herself still wanted and on the run, only this time she wanted by and on the run from her past, present and future. This second installment of the Kricket series is PACKED full of action and felt like one long cat-and-mouse game. 

Kricket is still as resolute and unyielding as always, but finds herself opening up and allowing more than just herself into her soul. Furthermore, she is learning how to get more control over her abilities and use them to her advantage, even if she's a little daring and reckless in doing so. 

In this novel, Bartol introduces us to a few new characters that are crucial to the plot itself and gives us more answers as to just why everyone wants Kricket, whether because she is a beacon of hope or a thorn in the side to be yanked out.

As always, Trey and Kyon are as desperate as always to keep the other at bay and Kricket out of their grasp. There were a number of "hold-onto-the-seat-of-your-pants-WHAT-JUST-HAPPENED" moments in this story that literally had me holding my breath and having to cover the rest of the page to avoid reading ahead. I love stories that grab ahold of me like that and Sea of Stars is certainly one.

This story does end with somewhat of a cliff-hanger, however the third installment is already available and picks up right where this one leaves off.
