The second I started reading this book I felt like it was really familiar. It didn’t take me long to realize that it was very much like Mean Girls. I adored that movie, so I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about this book.

The Lipstick Laws really wasn’t for me. It wasn’t a bad book, but I just felt like it was very bland and not very deep. The character April seemed extremely vain to me the whole time and not much better than the main mean girl. I don’t feel like there every was a time when she realized that she was acting the same way.

I guess my biggest problem with this book was that it was showing the girls being extremely petty and vapid and there really wasn’t a big portion of time where any of them realized their wrong doings. I would have liked them to come to some sort of terms with the way they were acting. I feel like Jess was the only character with a soul and who cared.

For being a light read, I didn’t mind it, but it really isn’t something I’d recommend to anyone looking for something great to read. Check it out if you like cute middle school esque stories, with very little depth to them.

The Lipstick Laws is by far one the best book I have read this year so far. I devoured it in about 4 hours. It is entertaining and very funny. Ok more like Laugh Out Loud funny.

It follow April as she returns to school after the summer. Her best friend as moved away and she has no one else. So when paired up with Britney in gym class everything changes for April. She has a chance at being popular. However, being popular isn't has great as it seems and poor April quickly find out what it like to be on Britney bad side.

April is very funny from the start the book. She is very easy to connect with. As I think most people in there lifes at some point have been in that situation where you wanted to be popular. I honestly just love her. Britney is, ok well, she is quite simply a Bitch and wants to rule everyone around her. After we find out part of her past it still didn't make me feel for her at all because even though she had it tough it still doesn't excuse how she treats others. Britney even treats her "friends" like garbage.

The Lipstick Laws is a fantastic story, It very funny and fast paced. Its similiar to the movie Mean Girls (which I love) only this novel is on another level completely. I can't wait to read more of Amy Holder's work.

I recommend this to anyone who loves Chick-Lit novels that are lighthearted and fun.
