Breathless

Amy McCulloch2022
At the top of the world's tallest mountains, there literally isn't enough oxygen to breathe. In the space of hours your body will begin to shut down. Any longer, and death is inevitable. What better place for a serial killer to find their next victim? Struggling journalist Cecily Wong is delighted to be invited to interview famed mountaineer Charles McVeigh, conditional on joining his team on one of the Himalayas' toughest peaks. But on the mountain, it's clear something is wrong. It begins small - a theft, an accidental fall. And then a note, pinned to her tent in the night- there's a murderer on the mountain...

5 out of 5 stars, the past couple of day's I've been reading romance novels so it feels so good to go back to my roots and pick up a thriller. I am so happy that this was apart of the Book of the Month in the Month of May, I'm so glad I picked it up. (spoilers...) Cecily Wong is a journalist for the 'Wild Outdoors' and has been given the amazing opportunity to climb Mount Manaslu with none other than the amazing 'Charles McVeigh' who is a renowned alpinist. Charles has decided to take on the 14 Mountains that are over 8,000 meters, taking a team up for his last Mountain. But when people start dying off on the mountain before they even get to the 'death zone', Cecily starts trying to investigate. When i tell you I knew everything before it even happened, I saw it all. I knew from the comment Charles made about the mountain would be the greatest hunting ground for a serial killer, to which it was. Charles has killed about 5 people on this exhibition alone. But even though I knew he was the killer, It was amazing how the unravelled the story. I loved it so much, I couldn't wait to finish the book because it was well written. and when I found out that Amy McCullough actually climbed Mount Manaslu that was amazing as well.
