At Her Service

This is the second book in the “Out in Hollywood” series by Amy Spalding and after enjoying book I have had book 2 and 3 on the shelf and TBR for a while but decided that it was time to dive back into this universe. This is ultimately a series about queer people in Hollywood! 

At Her Service centres around Max, her job and the Self- actualisation app her roommate has asked her to help test and review for her Socials. Max has a very relatable life. When working a 9 to 5, it is hard to prioritize other things in your life besides work, and it is easy to fall into stagnancy. This book emulates the reality that while an app is helpful, it is your choices that determine your life and your future. As with Max, it is easy to be complacent and accept things as they are. 

This is an enjoyable read for the most part, but it was a little slow in places and it took a while for the story to start. Max is a relatable character, and this is a book that is about self-discovery and about learning to almost love yourself as well as building confidence and finding out what you want in life.  I did like Sadie as a love interest and wish that we had gotten more of a back story on her. I would have liked a few chapters from Sadie's POV, I think that would have allowed the reader to feel more connected to their character.
