On Her Terms

This is the Third book in the “Out in Holloywood” series by Amy Spalding and after enjoying the first 2 books I knew that I just needed to go sight into the third! This is ultimately a series about queer people in Hollywood!

Clementine has always known she is attracted to women but only recently broken up with a long-term boyfriend when he wanted children. At thirty-six, Clementine knows she doesn’t want children. She’s admitted to being bisexual in her head only up until now. She believes she’s ready to try something new. When Chloe Lee asks Clem to be her fake plus one for a wedding, Clem says no. But the more they talk, and it still seems like a bad idea, Clem gives in to nagging in her head that it’s exactly what she wants to try. And so, Clem and Chloe begin a public fake relationship in front of her family, friends, and coworkers.

I really appreciated the body positivity and neurodiversity spread throughout this book. Clementine was such a gem. Her self-discovery and problem solving made this entire book for me. Chloe although a tough code to crack, it was nice to see her character development as she started to let Clementine in. The laughter and humour because the two as a couple was palpable from the pages. I also really loved the side characters and watching the friend groups really blossom.

Overall, this was a decent read with some fun moments, but it didn’t completely win me over.
