Just finished The Mixquiahuala Letters by Ana Castillo and...it is worth the read. It's got ghost stories, it's got adventure and drama, and social commentary. It's set up so the read order changes depending on if you want to read it through a Conformist Lens, Cynical Lens, or Quixotic Lens. Conformist is the shortest order and Quixotic is the longest. I could not choose. So I first read Conformist order and took notes on my impression of the story and characters, then through the Cynic, and right now I am reading the Quixotic version of events. For each I included in the notes what we know or don't know. It's extremely interesting to see how things change, reading the same letters just in different orders or by leaving one or two key letters out. A very fun exercise. Had a little trouble getting into the flow of things, so started and stopped reading before I finally got far enough in that I could kot put it down because of the twists and turns. A few times I put down the book just because a new fact got revealed that changed my impression of a character so completely I just needed a second to digest.
