If We Ever Meet Again

Ana Huang2023
A steamy strangers to friends to lovers romance from Ana Huang, the New York Times bestselling author of the Kings of Sin and Twisted series One year, two opposites, and a love that will blindside and, ultimately, shatter them. She's an aspiring interior designer who dreams of falling in love. He's an ex-football star who thinks love is a con. She's a virgin, and he doesn't do virgins. He's cocky, infuriating, and not her type. She wants the fairytale. He wants freedom. Blake and Farrah shouldn't have fallen for each other the way they did: totally, completely, and irrevocably. Because they're studying abroad in Shanghai, and they only have one year. Because forces at home threaten to rip them apart, even if they don't know it yet. And because, eventually, they must face the most heart-breaking lesson they'll ever learn: sometimes, even the greatest love can't conquer all . . . This is the first book in a duet. It's a full-length novel with no sudden cliffhangers, but Blake and Farrah's story concludes in book two, If the Sun Never Sets. Recommended for 18+.

So I love Ana Huang and don’t get me wrong when I say this but I can tell this is some of Ana’s earlier work. What I’ve been reading today is written stronger than these are in my opinion. I like them but it’s not like the Twisted and King of Sins series that I love. What was important for this one to have already read the second book before really crafting my thoughts on this one. In the moment the one trope that was in here was horrible. I hate it and was extremely scared what the second book would do. But I can say is just stick it out because while I didn’t enjoy it all it was still good to read and I’m happy to work through the rest of Ana Huang’s backlist.

Omg this book was actually so good they’re basically foreign exchange students at uni. Then Farah and Blake meet and fall in love it was cute but whne they went back home for new years Blake hooked up w his ex and he didn’t remember the night bc he was drunk then later she rings him and tells him she’s pregnant so yeah Blake then broke up with Farah but didn’t tell Farah the truth why. Then the book ended there but it had a good pace.

spent most of the time pissed off at both the hero and heroine, honestly. it's like they always let the situation get the best of them without doing anything remotely special to defend themselves. but again, i'm such a weakling towards sappy love story with misunderstandings like this one, so i enjoyed it anyway.

Ana Huang has a very nice way of writing. I mean.. I finished this book on the same day I started it, which doesn’t happen that often. But I’m sad to say this book disappointed me.. a lot. I know she said that she started this book when she was nineteen and continued working on it for a decade, but honestly ..it felt like I was back in my Wattpad era and not in a good way. I didn’t get the chance to enjoy or get to know the characters (including the main character Farrah) and the way the love story started was too hasty in my opinion. It didn’t make sense to me at all. There was no bridge, if that makes sense??

But the worst thing about this whole book was the fact that he cheated on Farrah and got Cleo pregnant. I know he was “drunk” or whatever, but I couldn’t care less. Cheating is cheating. He should’ve been more responsible if he truly had eyes for one woman. Ana Huang tried to make the reader feel sorry for him by showing us that he still loved Farrah, which I can believe, but it doesn’t excuse the fact that he’s still a cheater. I won’t support them getting back together, ever.

Sometimes I forget I really enjoy contemporary romance. Especially books like this. This book was such a good and wholesome romance read that I really needed right now. When I was asked to read and review this book, I was very skeptical and honestly wasn't sure if I was going to like it at all. But after getting a few chapters in, I really started to love it. Farrah and Blake are an interesting couple and not two people you would expect to be together. But their relationship is so real and raw. You can really identify with Farrah and Blake and I felt like I really knew them by the middle of the book. Along with Farrah and Blake, all of the side characters were fun and interesting to learn about, since they make the story even better. The setting of this book is in Shanghai. Both are on a study abroad opportunity with their respective colleges, as well as a few other spots they visit for fun. The descriptions that are used for this book really helps me paint a very vivid and beautiful picture of what it would look like. The world and character building were fantastic. Everything was well thought out and kept me turning the pages. If you are looking for a lovely, easy, and sweet read this book is definitely something you should pick up. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I received an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
