My heart, my soft human heart. I don’t think I’ve sobbed this much over novella, but Fredrik Backman is a master of sentimental and awe filled prose. One of my all time of favourite authors

I wish I could rate it higher, but I usually have a hard time getting attached to short stories like I do to a full-length novels. It doesn’t change the fact that it was incredibly emotional and beautiful. It’s Fredrik Backman, so it had to be.

A beautiful and heartbreaking story about love, loss, and the inevitable, relentless passing of time. Anything about Dementia  ALWAYS gets me crying, and this novella was no exception. It is an incredible reminder to treasure every moment with our loved ones.

Finished this quick little read this morning. It dives into the interplay of memory and love, revealing a touching exploration of the sentimental reminiscences between a grandfather and his grandson. As they navigate the challenges of the grandfather’s battle with Alzheimer’s, his grandson has to help recollect his memories throughout the story.

I started to think about how I tend to ruminate on memories, spending lots of my time lost in nostalgia. My inclination to linger in the past leaves me very frustrated at times as I am reluctant to hold on. You'll eventually forget the little things, as it turns into a bittersweet mix of comfort and sadness. Their memory becomes hazy, like a dream slipping away. But I care about these moments because I pay attention, and to be able to do that is so special. I do and will always continue to remember

This journey though is one the two take together and it shows the power of family and love. I read it in one sitting. High school and adult readers would appreciate this book.

I don't have enough words to describe how beautiful this story is.

This is a story about a boy named Noah and his Grandfather who is suffering from Alzheimer's. They are two kindred souls who understand each other and love each dearly. 

  Grandpa always calls him “Noahnoah” because he likes his grandson’s name twice as much as everyone else’s.

This is about memories and trying your best to hold them even when you are slowly losing them. It's about learning how to say good-byes. It's about love and death. 

This is a very short book so I'm just going to list some of my favorite quotes because the writing is jus too beautiful. 


   Noah’s feet don’t touch the ground when his legs dangle over the edge of the bench, but his head reaches all the way to space, because he hasn’t been alive long enough to allow anyone to keep his thoughts on Earth.

I love how Fredrik Backman talks about love.. it's heartwarming. I don't think anyone could do a better job.

I love how the grandfather and Noah meet each other in space and they’re able to bond with each other there. As well as how the grandmother would accompany the grandfather on the way home.

Simple but cluttered, alike the mind of one that loses their memory. My grandfather has dementia, he deteriorates every time we visit. Yet, there can be the occasional good day; like him remembering my name or not being sleepy, our concept of good days have changed over time, as it use to be him stringing along a conversation… Now it’s rare for him to pay attention and retain information to speak, to speak without stopping and asking the same question as before. This read was very emotional for me, there were many aspects I could relate to. My grandmother had also died before him. I wonder how Poppy initially coped with his memory loss, and how he processes information. I wish I could talk to the man he once was, as I don’t even remember him for being him anymore, such time has passed that I cannot recollect my memories with him. His spirit still runs deep, he has this charm and spark. Similar to this book. However, I’m afraid his personality has abandoned him recently. It was a quick read that possessed a disorganised structure alike the grandfathers mind, expressed the worries of not remembering what one knows, and evoked emotions from me consistently. I hope to share this with my future kids, to understand what it was like, to express what I might not be able to. I remember it being scary too Noah.

The best read of the year for me. Backman knows magic! He conveyed a one of the difficult lessons for humans in not more than 50 pages and that too so beautifully. Grateful for finding this wholesome book!!

This is a tear-jerker and the language is beautiful and poetic. If that's your criteria for a great book, this is 5+ stars! For me it painted a picture of dementia that is a bit too simplistic and almost a little cutesy. 

I did like this quote from the author's introductory letter. "Humans are a strange breed in the way our fear of getting old seems to be even greater than our fear of dying."
