“I’m obviously driving.” Paul pulls open his dresser and starts digging for clothes. “I want it on record that this is a stupid idea, and I will not be taking any responsibility.” 

“Fuck yes!” Brendon shouts. “That sounds like a terrible idea and I’m one hundred percent on board for this.”

“We’re a team,” Carpenter says. “Nobody fucks with you but us.”

I also didn't expect this book to make me cry, but this did. I cried. A lot. Kindness makes me cry, don't judge me.

I didn't expect to have an appearance in this, but hey, that's me! 

“Yeah. I’m impatient, selfish, don’t like to be touched, short- tempered, and not comforting.”

“I don’t want to hurt you.” My throat is clogged with emotion, making it hard to speak. 

Johnson: Why didn’t you tell me? I’m the trustworthy one of this group.

“If he didn’t stay off my goalie, I would make tea out of the teeth I was going to knock out of his face.”

You’re fucking broken. Who will want your broken ass? Dealing with your bullshit isn’t worth it. You aren’t worthy of love like that.

Part of me craves human contact, but in reality, I can’t stand for anyone to touch my body.

Overtraining because the brain needs the silence is one of my greatest strenghts. 

Everyone thinks I workout like a man possessed because I’m dedicated to hockey but it’s because it quiets my thoughts. 

It was fine, liked the characters, but the story got a bit boring.

Sometimes a book pops up in one of your feeds and you just think like “Yes, this. Right now.” It’s not just me, isn’t it? I’ve never heard of Andi Jaxon prior to stumbling over Hidden Scars and as I’m still quite new to MM romance, this was combined with one of my favourite sports and that’s all that was needed for me to be sold on this. I checked Kindle Unlimited, downloaded, and started reading. And … I just didn’t stop. It took me 1,5 days to read this and that only because that strange concept of real life with real people wanted some attention, too.

The two main characters are fascinating, each in their own way. We have Preston, the dark, mysterious, and massively challenging guy that towers over everyone and keeps pushing the people around him – away and to better versions of themselves. He is riddled with trauma, has a hard time trusting just about anyone and is the hardest working student on campus. And we have Jeremy, the human incarnation of a Golden Retriever, kind, relentlessly so, enjoying the good sides of life and slowly, slowly dragging Preston out the dark and into the light.

I enjoyed the development between Preston and Jeremy a lot, but what really sold me on this were the side characters. The hockey team? Goofballs, all of them. The family on Jeremy’s side? Pure-hearted and gold. Pres’ sister? Little badass in the process of growing into herself. I’m absolutely sure everyone needs a Brendon in their life for the “should we really be doing this”-moments and that’s a hill I’ll die on. But if there’s also a Paul, that should help, too.

The plot had very, very dark moments, but it was balanced, and the reader is able to take breaks, too. I enjoyed seeing them grow together and sprinkle a bit possessiveness, protectiveness and sassy, spicy banter on top and I was gone for these two.

This was definitely not my last Andi Jaxon book and I’m looking forward to reading more.
