it was tough to get back into this one after the tragic conculsion of the previous book. I loved how the author dealt with it and even though the plot wasn't my favorite it the series it was very strong and captivating. 
I think this is my favorite series and the narration is perfect.

Because the body of Dr. Gordon Cornell, who was involved in their previous case, has been found, Kim and her team are brought back together even though they are still suffering from events that occurred at the close of that investigation. At the same time, Stacey Wood delves into a case of a missing girl who could die if she doesn't receive her medication. When Dr. Cornell's son is killed in a car accident, the timing can't be ignored, but who could want both father and son dead? Making the search more difficult is the newest member of the team being added under protest from Kim. Penn, brings his own problems and his own set of skills. Will he only be a temporary replacement, or will he find a permanent place on this troubled team?

Fatal Promise is an emotional journey through loss and recovery. The theme woven throughout the story is making choices, even when they seem impossible to make. Almost every character in the story makes a difficult choice at some point during the book. Even the audience is being asked to choose to continue reading the series after the events from the previous story. The mysteries in this book are somewhat predictable, but in the face of all the emotion involved in this story, a little predictability is understandable. Overall, Fatal Promise is just the book needed to move this series forward
