Raging Inferno

Raging Inferno

Two years have passed since Abigail Blanque's life was changed forever. After suffering a great loss, she fed into her darkness and pain, killing every rogue vampire within her reach. Abby finds herself marked by an evil ancestor hell-bent on returning from her talisman-encased prison. She needs Abby's soul in order to rise again. Meanwhile, something sinister is happening in New Orleans. An unidentified dark force is taking over hybrids and other supernaturals, but no one knows who's bringing the malevolent black magic forth and it's set its sights on Abby. It's a race against time and it's up to Abby, her sister Elizabeth, and trusted friends to stop this evil before it wreaks havoc within the city. The Darkness has been awakened.

This is a mix of magic and faith, not what I was expecting at all. I usually avoid anything faith-based as I feel it can exclude readers of differing or no faith. However, this blended quite well and didn't come across as preachy at all, more an image of a family who use their faith to shore up their magical defences. Abbi is on a not-so-slow-road to destruction. After the loss of her best friend, she hits the alcohol hard. This is affecting her magical abilities and hinders her fight against rogue vampires. Her sister, Liz, has this cool sword of God but Abbi doesn't seem to care about expanding her skills. Add in Danny. Ex-boyfriend, a good friend but a reminder of everything she has lost. man, Abbi is mean to that boy. He's like a puppy, he just keeps loving her even when she is downright nasty to him! There is a great mix of family, found family, and allies. Deeply comical moments (Karaoke anyone?) with the deeply profound and emotional. Delphine is not an ancestor I'd want to lay claim to either. I'd definately be happy to read the next book in the series.
