Really loved the tone & characters of the book. Felt it missed some of that in the film. We covered it for our book club podcast

I enjoyed this book a lot more because it was set in my hometown and it was nice seeing all the place I adore or have been mentioned. The aspect of reliability made it more enjoyable in that sense. Nonetheless, I'm certain I would have enjoyed it even less if it was set anywhere else. Animals seems to be about everything and nothing at the same time. Twenty-somethings in Manchester who live a nice glass of wine and powder up the nose struggle with the imminent battle of adult life. The war between having a good time and doing what society wants you to do. Resisting temptations or giving in to the completion. The two protagonists have a fun friendship, I'd love a night out with them but it's pretty toxic at the same time. People outside of the friendship make the odd remark about the two but it never seems to be something that's fully explored. Animals played out much better as a movie. Overall, it's one giant metaphor about eventually having to grow up and put yourself first every now and then.
