There were a few pesky details in the book that Tatlock got wrong that bothered me a little. For instance, when the characters enter the town of Travelers Rest (something I'm fairly familiar with due to my former job) the protagonist narrates the things that she sees and one of those items is "Travelers Rest Bank." No. That's not the name. It's "The Bank of Travelers Rest." It's a little thing but just pesky enough to bother me.

Not pesky enough to distract from my opinion of the book as a whole.

Tatlock's skill with words does not diminish from one book to the next. Her narratives are always smooth and beautiful. Often she deals with difficult topics and handles them with care, sometimes making profound observations. This book is no different. She deals with severe traumatic injury, prejudice, and potential alcoholism to name a few. However, her treatment of those issues left me wanting more. She did not really dive in and get down to the nitty gritty reality of all of those things. 

She also has a tendency to wrap up the narrative as if they are a fairy-tale with the "happily ever after" ending. I may be a bit of a cynic but I do not think it's realistic. It's actually starting to dull my affinity for Tatlock books.
