Woah I was not expecting this book to be as good as it was.

This book is proof you should never be afraid to pick up a random book you find and have never heard of before.

This book is so underrated, I can’t believe it’s not super popular.

Set in pre-WW2 Rome, it follows pianist teacher Eva as the new wife of widower Dante Cavallera, where suspicious and mysterious things start to unfold in the house. Along with this, Eva hides a secret about her past that, if revealed, would cause her great punishment.

I loved this book due to the clear and intense research Mazzola has done to make this book as historically accurate as possible, I also loved how there’s no sugar-coating the events that take place. This book explores the mindset of the fascists and also the struggles facing minority groups in 1938 Rome such as Slavs, Jews, LGBTQ+ people and more.

I really enjoyed the twists and turns of this book, there were times I couldn’t put it down! It had me hooked from the start and I definitely recommend to history lovers, and just readers in general!

I would so love to see a movie made of this book!
