Very interesting choices here, and a great writer who did a great job with multiple POV. Emelie’s POV was my favorite by far—I would’ve liked to see her welcomed into the fold much earlier in the page count and cause more tension. She could for example decide to be a journalist and ingratiate herself with these people because of her genuine concern for Lake (and she could interview all of them, giving the Sara interview more purpose and allowing for backstory sections to be introduced) and then sort of unexpectedly fall under their spell a bit? Instead the majority of the plot here is backstory, and it felt like it took forever to get through even though it’s well written. My main gripe though is I just couldn’t get behind the timeline here. Everyone in the colony just “went with it” for… 15 years? Until one person, in one drunken conversation, causes them to “wake up”? It seems like the only reason for it to go on that long is because she wanted Lake to be a teenager, but even if he was like, 12 I feel like it would be more believable. I also think it’s crazy that at the end, STILL NO ONE TRIES TO GET LAKE INTO SCHOOL!
