Perfect ! When the (Anonymous) author said they knew what Booktok wanted, they meant it. This book has (actual) enemies to lovers (spoiler: the passage when she stabs him when he kisses her), the one bed thrope, a sort of found family, and most important a really morally grey heroine, a masquerade ball and tons of weapons. It is well written, the rhythm is perfect, I laughed and almost cried, with tension in between. While placed in a fantasy world, with Faes and Elves, it addresses racism and something I before never read about, being caught between two cultures, which I could relate to. Questions of loyalty to the tyrant/dictator king are posed, and the lines between good and bad are blurred. Consent is addressed too, and LGBTQIA+ isn't pushed, or here just to be, but just normal relationships. It was so good I finished it at 2 am because I couldn't put it down. I want to read the second book so bad, I hope we won't have to wait years for it. I should warn about trigers with the murders and the addiction. I must say that I picked it because of the mystery of the author, but I totally forgot about it once in the book, so thank you Anonymous.
