The prose in this book does not match Bourdain's other works. To me, it read like somebody else's words. The only time it felt like Bourdain writing is when the subject of food and cooking came up, at which point Bourdain went overboard with details and descriptions. There was also entirely too much supposition as to Mallon's feelings and state of mind for my taste. I wanted to like this book as much as I do Bourdain's other works, but fiction and non-fiction, but it never really met my expectations.
