This book is a great source of catchy quotes for social media. But for those looking for some answers, this book is as practical as Shia LaBeouf’s “just do it” video.

In the first chapters the author claims that you are “asleep”, and that he is not going to wake you up. I can buy that, I have to “wake up” myself. Later the author sways in the direction “there is nothing to fix and we should be happy”, but if there is nothing to fix why am I reading the book and you are writing it? Okay, I may buy that too, in line with “it’s the chase that makes us unhappy”. Somewhere closer to the middle there author writes: “you are unhappy, that proves that you are asleep”. After reading that, I’ve closed the book and don’t plan to come back.

I see this book as a collection of catchy ideas from psychology (separation of “I” and “me”), spirituality, and philosophy, with all the practical advices left out.

This book came highly recommended by Tim Ferris and a podcast guest, if I remember correctly, but a few chapters in it was just not resonating with me at all, and I've abandoned it. To me it felt outdated, out-of-touch, and cynical. Perhaps I've just read too much other, similar, but better stuff. Perhaps I'm the cynical one. Either way, it didn't grab me, it didn't interest me, and it's not going to waste any more of my time.
