The Widow Ranter, Or, The History of Bacon in Virginia A Tragi-comedy

One of the last works of the first English woman novelist, probably written in 1687 or 1688. The play uses Nathaniel Bacon's 1676 rebellion in Virginia as a background for commenting on contemporary British politics. Almost no authentic information is provided about colonial America. Appended to the text of the play are 11 contemporary accounts of the rebellion, including ones by John Dryden, Thomas Glover, and Bacon himself. Well annotated with explanations of obsolete terms.
