I’ve held off on writing a full review of this series because I kept hoping that the ending would be the distinction between the others. It’s not. It feels rushed, the conflict seems insurmountable and then suddenly, it’s over. Once again, the most captivating characters seem to be looked over but in this book it just throws the pacing off. People seem to switch sides for no reason other than to march the plot forward to the conclusion. It’s still exceptionally written, and has good bones for a plot, but I keep wishing there was more, especially in this last book. Even on the shelf, it’s much shorter than the others. All good books about war are ultimately about the cycle of violence, and this one does make note of it. But this one seems to almost have half a battle, then a duel, and then nothing at all. It leaves out two (technically 101 lol) major players in the cycle. Characters we grew to love in previous books are thrown in haphazardly, then set aside, without another appearance. Again, great writing, I’m just constantly wishing to hear more from the other more interesting characters rather than the one who seems to just be a one-note evil mastermind.
