Ally Condie

Set within a civilization that lives deep beneath the sea, twin sisters, Rio and Bay, are about to make the most important decision of their lives. Will they choose to stay Below, sacrificing their soul but living in happiness, or to go Above, keeping their soul but living in weakness and misery. No one could have predicted their choice.

"Rio has always dreamed of leaving the underwater city of Atlantia for life in the Above; however, when her twin sister, Bay, makes an unexpected decision, Rio is left stranded below where she must find a way to unlock the secrets of the siren voice she has long hidden and save Atlantia from destruction"--

This was an interesting concept... And I thought the characters were good...
I just didn't love it.

The writing style could have used some improvement, but I was already familiar with her writing style so that didn't really bother me too much... I just thought it was somewhat slow up until about 150 pages in.

I do appreciate the fact that it's not a trilogy, because I really hate that almost every author these days feels the need to make book into trilogies when everything could be summed up in just one or two books.

Overall, I think this was an enjoyable book, for the most part, but it was the best book ever, by any means.

From the New York Times and international bestselling author of the Matched trilogy, Ally Condie, comes a brand new mysterious world! Can you hear Atlantia breathing? For as long as she can remember, Rio has dreamt of the sand and sky Above--of life beyond her underwater city of Atlantia. But in a single moment, all her plans for the future are thwarted when her twin sister, Bay, makes an unexpected decision, stranding Rio Below. Alone, ripped away from the last person who knew Rio's true self--and the powerful siren voice she has long hidden--she has nothing left to lose. Guided by a dangerous and unlikely mentor, Rio formulates a plan that leads to increasingly treacherous questions about her mother's death, her own destiny, and the complex system constructed to govern the divide between land and sea. Her life and her city depend on Rio to listen to the voices of the past and to speak long-hidden truths. A New York times bestseller!

I liked this book a lot, but still not as much as Matched. It was good, with great ideas and a captivating plot, but I felt like a lot of characters were underdeveloped and everything happened to quickly. But it's definitely worth a read.

The writing was okay, although I have to agree with other reviewers, it could do with more description of surroundings. The plot was unique, but on the same hand, hard to comprehend at times. At the end the whole book left me with a feeling of confusion, but I still enjoyed it. I guess I'm neutral.

Review to come once school dies down and I have time to write one.

I liked the idea behind the novel. I liked where Ally Condie went with the story, but I have to say I don't think I am a huge fan of her work. Between this novel and the Matched series, I feel her ideas are solid but she doesn't take me where I want to go with them. I'm left upset with where she has taken her amazing story line.

1.5 I was really hoping to like this book because of the Matched Trilogy books that I have read most of, also by Ally Condie. I found this book boring and pointless and I really didn't like it I wished I would have
