This story had everything to keep me hooked: a completely career oriented American travels to Italy on business and meets an attractive Italian that shows her there’s more to life than work? Yes, please!

Sadly the author decided to go the insta-love route… And when I say instantaneous, I really mean instantaneous, because by the end of chapter 1, the protagonists had just met and Michelangelo was already wondering if he could make Carly fall in love with him as the same time as he was going to make her fall in love with Rome…

No. Just no. Insta-love is the kind of thing that can work when the characters are adolescents or young adults but with full grown adults, I just don’t buy it. Now, if the characters had had an immediate attraction, some kind of insta-lust, and as they spent more time together and got to know each other better they ended up falling in love, I would have probably loved the story.

Even more so because the setting was perfect for that kind of story: Carly is only going to be in Rome for a short time and Michelangelo has more serious problems to worry about, like trying to save his family’s vineyard… A summer fling, with an expiration date that turns into something more would have made a lot more sense to me, instead of thinking of a future together right from the start, especially when they both know she’s going back to the US at the end of the tour…

Oh well, I guess we don’t always get what we’re expecting. I really liked the fact that Michelangelo is a knight in shining armor, and not only where Carly is concerned, always ready to drop everything to help and do the right thing. I also really liked the secondary characters, the rest of the members of the orchestra. And I especially liked the descriptions of Italy, a country I very much want to visit.
