Meine Meinung: Mit Calendar Girl habe ich mich erneut an eine YA Reihe gewagt und muss vorab sagen, dass ich die Idee dahinter wirklich klasse finde. Während hier ja erst einmal vier Bände à drei Monaten erscheinen, ist in den USA die gesamte Reihe erst einmal einzeln als eine Novelle pro Monat erschienen. Die Idee finde ich absolut super und ich muss gestehen, ich hätte die Geschichten auch am liebsten Monat für Monat ein ganzes Jahr lang gelesen. Aber auch so bin ich sehr begeistert von Calendar Girl denn hinter dem Buch steckt tatsächlich sehr viel mehr als nur eine oberflächliche YA Geschichte.
Auf den ersten Seiten wird schnell deutlich: Mia hatte verdammt viel Pech mit den Männern. Ihrer letzten Eroberung allerdings schuldet ihr Vater eine Millionen Dollar, weshalb Mia das Geld so schnell wie möglich einbringen muss. Den ihr Vater wurde ins Koma geprügelt und wenn Mia nichts unternimmt, drohen sie, ihn zu töten. Mia bekommt einen Job als Escort Girl in der Agentur ihrer Tante und da sie in einem Jahr möglichst viel Geld einbringen muss sieht ihre Tante nur eine Möglichkeit. Sie muss monatsweise Aufträge bekommen und so verbringt Mia jeden Monat bei einem anderen Mann. Dabei hat sie sehr viel Glück und hier spielt auch der Punkt rein, den ich ein wenig kritisieren könnte, der mir jedoch nichts an Lesespaß genommen hat: Ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob das Leben als Escort Girl wirklich so ist: Man verbringt einen Monat nach dem anderen im völligen Luxus und hat als einzige Aufgabe, den Kunden zu begleiten: Sex ist nicht mit im Vertrag und nur, wenn man dies wirklich will, wird man obendrauf noch mit einer extra Geldprämie belohnt. Normal erscheint mir das nicht aber, hey, es ist ein Buch und es hat mir noch dazu sehr gut gefallen, weshalb ich beschlossen habe, darüber einfach hinwegzusehen. 
Wie es auch so sein soll, verliebt sich Mia in Wes, ihren Januar Mann beinahe sofort. Das Wissen, dass sie nur für den Januar bleiben wird, liegt aber über ihnen und doch lernt sie bei Wesley eine wichtige Lektion. Auch im Februar und im März findet sie vielleicht nicht die Liebe ihres Lebens aber aus jedem Monat kann sie im folgenden etwas Wichtiges mitnehmen und erkennt nach und nach auch immer mehr, wie sehr sie sich nach Wes sehnt, der auch im folgenden keine unwichtige Rolle spielt. Hier lässt sich schon erahnen, wie es in den folgenden Monaten weitergeht und mir gefällt es sehr, dass diese Buch einen Mehrwert hatte. Nicht die Sexszenen überwiegen, wie man es leider allzu oft erlebt sondern Mias Gefühlswelt und die wichtigen Erkenntnisse, die sie aus ihren Jobs mitnimmt. 
Mia selbst ist für mich sehr schwer einzuschätzen. Sie ist mir sehr sympathisch und sie handelt viel zu oft so, wie wir auch und es sind genau die Handlungen, für die wir uns immer ärgern. Unbedachte Fehler, falsche Entscheidungen… Aber sie lernt so viel und entwickelt sich und das lässt sich bereits im ersten Band schon gut erkennt. Andererseits musste ich leider sehr oft den Kopf über sie schütteln. Allein die Situation in der sie ihre Schwester fragt, was Botanik ist, hat mich entsetzt fragen lassen, ob sie das wirklich mit Mitte 20 nicht weiß oder ob Audrey Carlan denkt, ihre Leser wüssten das nicht. Wie dem auch sei, Mia konnte ich trotz Ihrer sympathischen Art oft nicht so ernst nehmen und das hat leider den Anspruch des Buches zu sehr gesenkt. Dennoch freue ich mich zu lesen, wie es mit Mia in den nächsten drei Monaten weitergeht. Band 2 erscheint Mitte August.
Fazit: Ich war sehr positiv überrascht über den Auftakt der Calendar Girls. Der Roman ist nicht nur eine klassische YA Geschichte sondern hat darüber hinaus auch einen gewissen Anspruch und die Entwicklung und die Lektionen der Protagonistin Mia stehen im Vordergrund. Diese hat mich allerdings manchmal sehr gestört und ich wusste trotz ihrer sympathischen Art oft nicht, ob sie tatsächlich so dumm ist, wie sie manchmal tut. Leider hat das den Anspruch des Buches enorm gesenkt und so muss ich leider Abzug geben.
