Aurora Burning: 4/5 "I am not feeling nothing." I regret reading this before the third one was released... I didn't listen to the people warning about the cliffhanger. I should have listened. I am empty. In this installment, we are returned to our classic multi-perspective story where the Squad 312 are now intergalactic criminals, in search of Auri's weapon. Much of this book has to do with traveling around and getting into various forms of trouble with high-ranking officers and trying to get out of it. Once again, I am faced with a travel-based story and we all know I am not a huge fan. That being said, Aurora Burning is like "travel-lite" since there is still a lot of plot that happens in between. And of course. MAJOR CLIFFHANGER. Of course, we are still faced with huge plot twists. There was one point where I was crying, and then two pages later my mouth was hanging open because this simply blew my mind. Wow. I was not ready in all honesty. I also cried like three times, two of which were full-on sobs. So read at your own risk. I connected a lot more with the characters in Aurora Burning than Aurora Rising. I think that could be because we are already introduced to them and this book really digs into their backstory, which I liked. I really fell in love with each squad member and each of their unique talents. I liked learning and growing with them as they all started learning more about themselves. Lastly.. Kal and Aurora. I love them so much. Their story is starting to bloom into one of my favorite romances, maybe ever. Although I love them together, I wish we got to see more of Kal and Aurora's relationship bloom within the six months in the Echo. Furthermore, I would have liked more emphasis on Aurora's training altogether. I even think her training could have been the majority of the book instead of only a few chapters towards the end. I am so curious about it all. This book did break me though. In so many ways. Although slow at some points, Aurora Burning keeps me yearning for more. At the time of me writing this, we don't even know when the next book will be published. I AM SCARED. I AM NERVOUS. PLEASE GIVE IT TO ME NOW.

YOU CAN’T JUST END A BOOK LIKE THAT

SCREW the cliffhanger after 15 hours of getting into it but man i love this series <3 the mcs are all so loveable and well written im rooting for them all always

AHHHHHH!!!!!! I absolutely loved it and it hurt me so much. The pain I felt from this book is immaculate. What hurts more is that I have to wait till November to finish the trilogy and the story. But the pain and the love that is built up in this. *chefs kiss*

I am not feeling nothing.

I loved the plot and loved it over all. It ended up being a 4 start because there was endless repetition in character descriptions and other areas as well. It really took me out of the story to think “really, this is the 3rd or 4th time in as many chapters this same EXACT thing was written”. I didn’t like that there was no effort in trying to get the point across in a different way.

First I have to say, wow wow wow wow wow! This book was so cleverly thought out and written! I can definitely say this is better than the first! The stakes were raised throughout it, the character arcs were amazing, and I loved the surprises I found out along the way! And the ending was crazy! I don't think I've ever read such an insane ending before! I truly don't know what to expect going into the next book, but man I need that book now! The only reason this book doesn't reach 5 stars for me is that I'm not completely in love with it. And there's also some choices a couple characters make that I'm not a fan of seeing in books I read. But other than that, this was incredible!

I still enjoyed(?) this even though sometimes it was super obnoxious. Also none of the twists were twists it u had half a brain which was disappointing but there’s some solid character arcs n stuff

4.5/5 stars the best second books are the ones that left reader in such suspense that they had to wait anxiously for the next book. or if you're lucky (like me) you can just immediately pick up the conclusion :) also honest to god i did Not see some of the twists coming, particularly the ones about tyler and scarlett (or maybe that's on me for being an idiot)

3.5 Stars My thoughts of this book are very similar to the first book. This series does not compare to the Illuminae Files. The plot was slightly better than that of the first book but that doesn’t make up for the annoying characters. Oh and don’t get me started on the cringy romances, ugh. The writing is average. Also ‘Mothercustard’ and ‘son of biscuit’ are definitely overused. Overall just an average reading experience

There are SO MANY PLOT TWISTS and it really kept me on the edge of my seat! I’m falling further in love with the characters.

NOOO! Cliffhanger! How does it even end? I’m so perplexed; did they all die?!! Some good points include worldbuilding, humor, and — damn — all those feels! Beautiful as the stars in the galaxy ❤️❤️❤️

** spoiler alert ** Arc was provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Squad 312 is back and better than ever! This book is packed with action, angst, and humour and was such a fun read. That being said, this book also ripped my heart out and stomped on it multiple times. Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman know how to write heart-wrenching books. When I wasn’t balling my eyes out, I was laughing out loud along with the characters. They are serious friend-squad goals and, I only wish I had a squad 312 for myself! Each character has their quirks and pasts that work in the story and make the story better. We have seen Tyler grow into the role of a leader through this book compared to book one. I love his growing relationships with his squad, not just as teammates but also as friends. His sister, Scarlett, is a fiery badass who is not afraid of her past relationships and uses them to help her figure herself out. Her relationship with Finian was hilarious to watch unfold and there is so much angst between them, which I loved. Finian is still our lovable class clown, but we watched him grow into his quirks. I love his jokiness and his ability to lighten the mood when the team is down or unsure. I love that Zila came out of her shell more in this novel and we are able to get a glimpse into her past and see how she came to where she is. She is still the shyest thing in the novel, but squad 312 loves her all the same. Auri and Kal are star-crossed lovers goals. I love their relationship and how they are willing to risk their own lives for each other. Auri’s ability growth is incredibly tedious but Kal keeps her grounded and constantly reminds her who she truly is meant to be. Kal is a giant sweetheart and I’ll forgive him this time because he did what he did to protect his friends. We have finally met the infamous Saedii and I hate to say it, but I think I like her character. To a certain degree. Especially when she is with Tyler. Their time together shapes who they truly are and who they want to be as leaders. They bring the fighter out of each other. Each character has their needs in this story and, I’m very upset over the ending! I mean, how can that be the end?! I need the next book immediately, but while I wait impatiently for it, for now, I will deal with how this one ended. This book was fantastic and deserves all the stars! 5/5 star rating!

MOTHERCUSTARD WHAT THE HELL? LIKE JESUS CHRIST WHAT WAS THAT ENDING? I’m pissed. Lord, I’m so very pissed and angry and in love with this awesome book but... WHY WOULD YOU LEAVE US LIKE THAT??? It was not a cliffhanger. It was an unfinished book that should have had more chapters. I’m so angry right now but... When is the next one coming out? I need it right now PS: Really great book, loved the romance.

LOVED this book as much as the first one!!!

I’ll give it a 4.5. The book starts off strong right where the first left off but the middle of the book lags. But the last 150 pgs or so were absolutely amazing I couldn’t put it down and the cliffhanger at the end has me excited for the final installment.

I would not have read this book if I knew the third one was not out yet. Also, they are so close to resolving the story, I don’t know how they’re going to write another entire book about it.

OK SO THEY JUST GET TO DO THAT TO US??!!! That was amazing! At first it was slow going- more of a four star read, but after part 4!!!! HOLY CRAP! This book is amazing and heartbreaking and there’s not even a date for the third one and I need it right now!

3.5-4

I think I love this one even more than the first, if that’s possible! BUT THAT CLIFFHANGER THOUGH! I need the next one now!

Updated Review: | The One That Broke Your Heart | • I finished Aurora Burning last night at midnight. If you read my post about Aurora Rising you saw that I gave it 3 stars and called it enjoyable. Sorry guys, book 2 isn’t in that spectrum. It’s a gut wrenching, heart racing 5 stars.... but aren’t all the good ones that way? In AB we see our squad with one less member going against the greater enemy along with the legion they were trained to defend and the galaxy’s most savage warriors, the Unbroken. The characters are growing to love and trust eachother which was my favorite part of the book. Seeing them bond and grow made my heart soar! I also think I found book 2 more enjoyable as I understood the world and terminology. I can honestly say Cat was my least favorite character from book 1.... although the loss of her was sad, I felt connected and like the number one cheerleader in the stands for all the MCs. Everyday new mysteries arrive that could help my favorite lovable heroes save the galaxy, if they can only decode them. While many secrets rise to the surface, each member must search their heart for the right answers. •Aurora- defend the galaxy or choose love? •Finian- hide behind humor or become the leader and glue of his squad? •Scarlet- choose the mission or her family? •Zola- feel again and become vulnerable? •Tyler- trust the enemy or die alone? •Kaliis- choose devotion, deception or both? • • • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars and I’m NOT OK! WHO DO I NEED TO SELL MY KIDNEY OR FIRST BORN CHILD TO FOR BOOK 3?!?! Psh.... whatever. I’m fine.... this is why counselors make the big bucks. (Uncorks wine, slides down wall crying) https://tenor.com/LiLE.gif I SAID IM FINE. Proper review to come

2.5 stars, but I'm rounding up because I'm feeling generous rn. This book started out pretty strong, but after a specific event (view spoiler)[*cough* when Kal reveals his full backstory and Scarlett kicks him off the ship for it (hide spoiler)] I felt the story took a kind of wild turn with the characterization. One of the weird things that kept sticking out to me was how Scarlett keeps referring to Tyler's crotch in constantly sexual ways??? Is that normal for siblings/twins??? (I genuinely don't know but uhhhh to me it's really weird) The cliffhanger was good though, so I feel compelled to read the next book when it comes out!

The book of the trilogy with the most slow moments but still interesting and full of development.
Highlights

You are the fire I long to burn inside.

"You will not die, be'shmai," I tell her. " You are more than you ever imagine.

She is a dream, alive and warm in my arms, and I burn with the feel of her, the smell of her, the taste of her a song She is smoke and starlight, she is blood and fire, she is a song in my veins as old as time and deep as the Void, and as I feel her surge against me, the flutter-soft touch of her tongue against mine, she almost destroys me.
