Calcutta, 1985. Living amidst the peeling grandeur of a colonial house called Dum Dum, the ancient denizens are all members of the Anglo-Indian community, a fiercely proud group for whom the imperial sun has never set. More British than the British despite their mixed race, they cling determinedly to their supposed superiority over the rest of the population. But outside the jasmine-covered walls of Dum Dum, the dark reality of hatred and bigotry is creeping closer and closer.
