B.A. Paris

A Novel

The Breakdown

From the international, million-copy bestselling author comes another addictive psychological thriller! ‘B A Paris has done it again! The Breakdown is a page turning thriller that will leave you questioning the family you love, the friends you trust, and even your own mind’ Wendy Walker

It took me awhile to get through this but i do admit i enjoyed the way the twist was written and when it finally picked up with the revelation. I won't say this is as good as The Therapist however, which I really purely enjoyed.

"Named One of the Most Anticipated Thriller Novels Of 2017 by Bustle! THE NEW CHILLING, PROPULSIVE NOVEL FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES AND USA TODAY BESTSELLING BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. If you can't trust yourself, who can you trust? Cass is having a hard time since the night she saw the car in the woods, on the winding rural road, in the middle of a downpour, with the woman sitting inside--the woman who was killed. She's been trying to put the crime out of her mind; what could she have done, really? It's a dangerous road to be on in the middle of a storm. Her husband would be furious if he knew she'd broken her promise not to take that shortcut home. And she probably would only have been hurt herself if she'd stopped. But since then, she's been forgetting every little thing: where she left the car, if she took her pills, the alarm code, why she ordered a pram when she doesn't have a baby. The only thing she can't forget is that woman, the woman she might have saved, and the terrible nagging guilt. Or the silent calls she's receiving, or the feeling that someone's watching her ... You won't be able to put down B.A. Paris's The Breakdown, the next chilling, propulsive novel from the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of Behind Closed Doors"--

Not as thrilling and fast-paced as her first novel, but The Breakdown had me HOOKED. For people who need constant action, this might not be for you. The tension was subtle, Cass's memory deteriorating little by little making her an unreliable narrator. That is what mostly kept me in though - I had to know what was going to happen. I kept switching back and forth between feeling sorry for her and being so annoyed with the entire situation but it still did not deter me. I did sort of figure it out a bit before the big reveal, but it didn't take away from me still gasping out loud when the conclusion finally happened!

I would recommend this as an audiobook!

3.5: It's hard to say too much about this book without giving something, or even everything away. What I can say is that it was nowhere near as good as "Behind Closed Doors" which I loved. I didn't understand the protagonist's actions most of the time. The book was largely repetitive and I almost even didn't finish reading it but I'm glad I made it through to the end. It all added up is all I can say.

Cass is having a bad night and things get worse for her. A woman that she saw stopped at the side of the road, a rainy , creepy dark road, winds up dead.

This is exactly the type of book I dive into and do not want to stop until I know what really happened. Cass's life just seemed to fall apart page after page, I kept thinking how can things get worse for this character? The author really took me on a twisted journey with this one. Cass is now paranoid and is having trouble remembering things. I found this book to be a bit spooky , not one that I would want to read alone in the house at night. All throughout the book I did have some theories that I was right about, I kind of saw where this one was going but I was not one hundred percent sure and that is one of the things that I loved about the book. The fact that it made me question almost every characters real intentions toward Cass was another good thing this book had going for it. I had no idea who Cass could trust, maybe she was the guilty one , I just had no clue.

Towards the end of the book there is a lot of suspense and when I finally find out what really happened,  I am not surprised but then  something else happens and I am surprised. It's just that type of book. This review was originally posted on Cindy's Book Binge

A fun ignoring the world for 24 hours to binge read until I'm finished-thriller. Time to rejoin the real world again, I guess.

The twistiness of this book was fabulous. My one complaint is how long the middle dragged out. This book could probably have been about 50 pages shorter to ramp up the tension and keep us from dragging.

I COULD NOT put this book down. It was so good I don't even know how to convey how good it was. I'm not ashamed to say I lost a lot of sleep finishing this book because I literally could not pull myself away from it. This is by far one of my favorite mystery books. It's fast paced, witty, and literally you have no idea what the ending is going to be. SO so damn good.

*I've got this book from NetGalley in exchange of an honest review*

I enjoyed reading a book where the main character suffers from mental illness (or does she not?), all the events in this book messed with my head so much, that I couldn't trust everything I read, everyone looked suspicious. So I can say, that I flew through this book in a few days.
However the main character was so annoying and whiny, that at some points I even thought of dnf'ing it, even though I liked the plot (if you know what I mean).
Also I wasn't satisfied with the ending, somehow it felt too rushed and not very convincing. After all that built up of the plot, I hoped for some shocking and amazing ending, but for me it was a little but anticlimactic.
I do recommend this book, if you want something fast and easy to spend your boring evening faster.
