Into the Nothing

Into the Nothing

B. T. Urruela2016
Xander Evans has been on the road for many years. Never settling. Always moving from one place to another, unable to let go of his past. He lived a tragic childhood, spending most of those years in foster care. He's never felt like he's had a home. That is until he stops in the small town of Truman Valley, Missouri, where he meets a woman who will change everything he's ever known. Paige Watson has it all. A loving family, beautiful home, and a great career. The only thing she's missing....is love. After escaping an abusive relationship, she opens her heart up to a stranger. He is unlike any man she's ever met. He came into her life and turned it completely upside down. Everything is perfect. That is, until one fateful night. A night that would tear the Watson family apart, never to be put back together again. A night that would send Xander away to prison for life.

This is not a romance novel. You thought Christian Grey was effed up? Let me introduce you to Xander. I mean, damn! Let me repeat .... THIS IS NOT A ROMANCE. I think BT Urruela is at heart a good writer and I'm sure with time will be an even better writer. Read his blog entries on his website. Dude is talented. This book is no romance. The H/h are quite simply tragic. I did not particularly care for either of them #letsbehonest I understand trying to step outside the romance tropes but there are certain foundations that can't be changed. The excess of booze and drugs (yes, marijuana is a drug) was a major turn off. If you are looking for a feel good story ... This is not it. My advice, from this opinionated reader to the author ... Don't do dual povs. There was not a clear separation in the voice. Female writers can have the same issues. Either do first person or third person. Don't bill these books as romance. Suspense, drama ...yes. The love/sex scene was hella awkward, imo. That can always be improved though. This is where the betas could have come in handy with feedback. Pace does pick up at the 70 percent mark and I'm not sure if that was for the best. Perhaps this story should have been told in two books? If you love dark subject matter, this book is for you. If you enjoy watching shows like Criminal Minds, SVU, and the like. Give this book a try. If you love a tall dark alpha hero ...this book is not for you. If you like a strong heroine with a good head on her shoulders and is smart ... Yeah, this book is not for you.
