this book kinda reminds me of the summer i turned pretty but a friendship oriented storyline instead of a romance one. and for some reason it feels more wholesome :))

genuinely felt like a slice of life anime you watch on a rainy day wallowing in agony trying to get rid of the fatigue in your body. just so so sweet, and so lovely. i yearn for friendships that feel like this, and this book showed me the life of what it could be like if i did.

i actually thought the end would take its turn and stab a knife through my heart, kicking me off to sadness and pain, but instead, banana yoshimoto decided to end the world building of yamamoto inn in a very heartwarming and hopeful way, indicating that life may be a piece of shit sometimes, but it really isn’t about bidding farewell to a time in memory but having the courage to accept the truth in one’s life, knowing full well that forever is a beautiful and wonderful lie and goodbye waits just around the corner, playfully toying with us on how we choose to fulfil the life that we live before time slips away. wonderful story, a beautiful read for those who yearn for youthhood stories that feels so nice to the soul.
