The dynamics between Kate and Anthony had me giggling like a shy little school girl. And of course interactions between Bridgeton siblings are always a highlight. So far this would be my fav of the Bridgerton series.

I get that Anthony is supposed to grow over the course of the book but the constant stream of misogyny and general not-niceness from him made it a lot less fun to read… that said I appreciated how the book fleshed out their connection over oldest child/dead parent trauma much more than the show did

oh for the love of the lord, this was straight up awful

I didn't love this one, not sure why. It was harder to get into than the 1st and 4th.
It's very unlike the show (but that's my mistake for seeing the show before reading the book).
The spicy level is upped in this one though.

Liked this one better than the first one. But I didn’t like Antony up until the point he was married to Kate.

show kanthony im so sorry i went for the original source material first 💔 my disappointment towards this book seems so heightened mostly bc i went into the viscount who loved me w high high expectations bc of the show bridgerton............ i wanted the forbidden romance, the yearning, the incessant desire w they BURNED for each other, i want you but i Can't............ so imagine when i got none of that and it completely missed the mark 💔💔💔💔 the casual misogyny and animalistic instincts are a problem entirely different on their own. i should've— and in a way i did— expected it all. i thought i could take it but turns out i CANNOT. it creeped me out and turned me off their supposed romance and anthony's character on more than one occasion. and i also know its a historical romance so its accurate for that time period but I DONTCARE !!!!!!!!! i would also like to apologise to kate for the disservice done to her character by julia quinn by making her properly cowed to fit in the mold anthony wanted her to fit in. let us kam 🙏

Seems like this will be the best one of the bunch…having listened to three so far. Excuse me as I go in a wild order based on library hold times 😅

kate sheffield i love you so much my girl

Anthony is the most sexist, classist and disgusting walking red flag and if he was a real man I’d want him dead but he is not and I love reading about gross unhealthy relationships so I love him. The fact that I kept picturing Jonathan Bailey’s beautiful face helped a lot too. All the Sheffield women are queens and I have nothing but love and respect for them. Anyway stan Anthony

anthony my little meow meow

i hate the men in this series actually

Just to forewarn I did listen to this book and read it after watching the show. Absolutely love them and wish I could enjoy their story over and over again. I really like both versions a lot and think that some of the differences were good for both. I really enjoyed the Edwina storyline better in the book than in the show but I get it could have been needed for dramatics. I really enjoyed both and can’t wait to continue on with the series.

I liked season 1 of the show so I figured I'd try the books starting with book 2. This was a good, quick read and romance fans will enjoy it.

After loving the series, I thought I’d give the books and try and I’m such a fan. I absolutely flew through this book. I found the delivery and writing style easy to follow. It’s unlike a lot of the books I would typically read (I don’t tend to reach for romance) which was a breath of fresh air.

In all honesty, it should be four stars because for a romance novel it is very well written and full of humour. After seeing the Netflix series of the first Bridgertons book I was intrigued into giving the series a try. That I completed this one says a lot about its quality, but romance novels are certainly not my thing. It is much better to look at all the colourful dresses and magnificent decors than reading about it.

The second book in the Bridgerton series focuses on Vicount Anthony. He has decided this is the year for him to wed and he is on the hunt for the perfect wife for his station. He has sworn off love for personal reasons and just wants a noble match. All of the ton feel that the new belle of the ball Edwina is the perfect match except he has to get approval from her annoying older sister. Trigger warnings: strong sexual content

utterly robbed and deprived of the scene where anthony pulls himself out of the water. this is a criminal offense.

I’m not gonna lie- I hate read this book. I don’t know why I go into Julia Quinn books thinking I’ll like them (we’re now 0 for 2). This entire book was unbridled miscommunication but not actually MIScommunication just the total lack of it. It’s getting two stars because the beginning was entertaining and cute and had banter but it was one of those books where the female protagonist loses her personality as soon as she gets the guy (one of my least favorite tropes immediately no). Also the main conflict was he had daddy issues and she was TOO UGLY for the rest of society ??? Absolutely not. I liked certain scenes of this book that I wished had been included in the show, but I liked the show’s plot much better, even though it was sooo much more frustrating. I really hate to not like this book but… I wish I stopped reading halfway thru.

Great second installment 😊 I'm looking forward to seeing this on Netflix. I'm almost certain they'll continue on with the series after all the success with the first season.

Definitely, this book is a lot better than the last one and I have just one thing left to say... I'm in love with the viscount, agh he is so perfect

4.5 do i think (know) my opinion was 100% skewed because i watched the show first? yes. do i think i would have loved it as much if i hadn't? no. but!! i had the best time reading this. i fucking love Anthony and Kate!!! docked .5 because the last quarter fell off a little bit and that wedding night scene did not sit right with me. i will be continuing on with the series !

“You have to live each hour as if it's your last and each day as if you were immortal." Read this merely to lower my excitement over Bridgerton season 2 BUT I ended up devouring it in a couple of days, which was real good :) #KathonySupremacy
Highlights

"He rather enjoyed waving the flame this way and that, watching the play of shadows against the walls and furniture."
this one got me-
anthony bridgerton has his cute moments

"And there was Kate Sheffield.
The bane of his existence.
And the object of all his desires.
All at once."
YES

"Anthony was suddenly gripped by the most insane desire to see her toes."
what in the everliving fuck-

"Anthony looked down at his evil clutches - hands, he reminded himself, hands - and grinned anew."
this made me cackle

“Look at me, Kate," he whispered, his voice gentle but suffused with authority. "If you just look at me, you will know that you are safe”
AND THEY DID NOT INCLUDE THIS IN THE SHOW! Why!! MY HEART WOULD BREAK AND FLUTTER. GOD HE IS SO WORRIED FOR HER🥰

Anthony looked down at his evil clutches-hands, he reminded himself, hands-and grinned anew.
This is when I started liking Anthony

"Anthony?" she said softly. "Anthon-" Yibbledeedad—!”

She was the bane of his existence. And the object of all his desires.

He had fallen in love with his wife

With every thought, every emotion, every piece of her being, she loved him.

“Thank you,” he said, checking to see that she’d added milk. She had, which didn’t surprise him; she was very good at remembering such details.

There was nothing, he decided, more breathtaking than Kate’s face when flushed with desire.

He laughed. “One thing about you, Kate Sheffield, is that you are never boring.” “Boring is so bland,” she quipped.

“Never a ninny, Kate. Even when I thought you the most insufferable female creature on the planet, I had no doubts about your intelligence.”

Gently he set his hand on her upper arm and gave it the tiniest of squeezes. “I’m here, Kate,” he murmured. “Everything will be all right.”

And then there was Kate Sheffield. The bane of his existence. And the object of his desires. All at once.
SCREAMING CRYING

“They’re not as smart as we are, they’re not as intuitive as we are, and they certainly don’t need to know about fifty percent of what we do.” She looked around. “He didn’t hear that, did he?”
women power

"It isn't right that Edwina receives all the flower"
SO MUCH LOVE

“I’m sure he will make some woman a good husband,” Kate said. “Just not one with a brain.”

“And men should not take women with pets for a walk in the park if they cannot control either,”
KATE MY ICON

Then her eyes caught Anthony’s, and he had the worst sort of feeling that he knew what she intended to do.
drama....

She had her face tipped up to the sun and was basking in its warmth. And for one extremely disconcerting moment, Anthony felt a sharp stab of…something. Something? He gave his head a little shake. It couldn’t possibly be desire. Not for this woman.
