Reviews

god just so cute and fun once again these books are always so enjoyable

2.5. Josie talking to the cootie gives Anastasia Steele talking to her inner goddess

Omg this original cover is really sending me - LOL. 🤣 A classic Ice Planet Barbarians novel, this is another quick, easy, feel-good read. It’s fun to be in this low-stakes sci-fi world where everyone is kind to each other and are mostly concerned with having hot sex. 😆

This review was originally posted on Addicted To Romance Barbarian's Mate is the sixth book in the series, and I was able to grab this on audio through Audible and I just breezed through this book. It might not be my favorite book of the series, but it had some fun times and we get a little bit more of the world that Ruby Dixon has created for us here.I first want to mention that if you haven't read this series...then go grab them up. They are all available on Kindle Unlimited (if you have it) but these books are only a few dollars and well worth the price. Ruby Dixon has made aliens sexy and they are blue, horned and have tails...but they SO WORK FOR ME and each book is simply fabulous. The story sets off pretty much from where book five ends. Our heroine, Josie, is the last one to be mated. The ship with all the medical technology, is broken and so she doesn't know how she will get her IUD out of her because she is pretty sure that is why her cootiehas been so silent. But when they return to the southern caves, her IUD drops on the floor and now Josie is like "smart smart cootie". Josie is more than ready to have a mate and have babies. More than any of the women that crash landed, she wants it more than anything. And now she is free, and so she goes to all the single males, hoping her cootie will hum soon and it does but to the last alien on earth she wants to be mated to...her nemesis Haeden. Haeden is just as shocked as Josie is that Josie is his mate. He never thought he would be able to have another mate. But is hurt too, because now he has a mate that hates him too. He craves to be accepted and loved just as Josie does. Josie refuses to accept the mating. And so for over a month they resist what their cooties are pushing them to do. Josie wants to get their cooties removed because she doesn't want to be with someone that hates her, or raise children in a hateful home. So when Haeden sees Josie wasting away because of her resisting the mating bond he takes her to the medical ship to get them removed. But when they learn the machines aren't working, Josie realizes that she will need to make the best of it and try to be civil with Haeden. But then another misunderstanding occurs and she leaves the caves and goes in search of Harlowe's Cave by the sea. But she stumbles across a deserted ship and finds two pods with women in it, and when she goes for help, she finds that Haeden has come for her and is battling with Metlaks (monkey like creatures) and she goes out to save him and ends up injured. And as Haeden helps heal her hands, they begin to be open and honest with each other and find out that their mating wouldn't be so bad and once they learn each other's past and feelings, they begin to truly connect emotionally and give into the desire they feel for each other. This is Haeden and Josie's book. Now in the previous books, we have seen the chemistry and the angst between them building with each book. They really really don't like each other....and we learn the background of the reasons behind what they do. I really looked forward to this one because of Josie because she is so funny and sweet and cheerful....she is a ray of sunshine but in this book we didn't get much of that aspect unfortunately. I hardly saw the Josie in this book that we see in previous books so that was a big disappointment. And honestly....TALK TO EACH OTHER already, and even though its only the first half of the story, these two drove me nuts. I really liked the hero way more than the heroine. Because he doesn't hate Josie, he just doesn't understand the risks that she takes. I touch her cheek before she can push my hand away. I am filled with longing, an aching need that will never be fulfilled. She will never be my mate. She will never let me claim her. She will never accept me into her arms and let me fill her belly with our child. Those things will not be mine Josie was a character I had a hard time truly understanding at times. I mean really...she was so difficult at times. Josie has a difficult past. She was abused sexually since she was a child, and was raised in foster homes until she was an adult. And then on the alien ship she was raped. But she doesn't want to focus on the past, she prefer to focus on the future. She wants to have a family and to be truly accepted and loved because she has never had it before. But I found her to be very selfish in this book, and she really hurts Haeden in the first half wanting their "cooties" removed. Haeden had a mate once, but he was young and naive at the time, and his mate didn't want him and would take her pleasure with another male. And Haeden waited hoping she would change his mind, being sick and miserable. But then the cootie sickness killed her and he was the only survivor of the camp. And then he finds Josie, who also doesn't want him and hates him too. But he never gives up on their mating and hoping for more from Josie. He is so protective and caring with Josie, and very patient more than she deserves in my mind. Just once, I wish she would look back. I wish she would see me, waiting on the horizon for her. Waiting to take care of her. To comfort her. To be her man and her mate and whatever else she needs Once Haeden and Josie become fully honest with each other, and get past the miscommuncation its where the book takes a new turn that I just delighted in and I couldn't get enough of!! I just got hooked on these two and seeing this new level of intimacy that develops between them. They have some great hot sex of course, but they also have so many emotionally moving moments that you just fall in love with them pretty quickly. I love how devoted Haeden is towards Josie and how much he acts out his love for her more than just saying the words and I ADORED his shows of affection and caring. But Josie has some redeemable moments, and once she learns from her mistakes, she grows from it and you learn to really like her character and boy she kicks ass at times too. Overall I found Barbarian's Mate to be a delicious read and a book I just had to gobble up and I didn't want to put down AT ALL!! It was simply fantastic once you get past the halfway mark, and Ruby Dixon has delivered another light and fun and sexy read with blue aliens to soak up like a sponge. I can't wait for the next one!! You are my life, my heart, my everything [foogallery id="25891"]

This was one of my favorites! What I love most about this series is that are they jumping around and hitting all the major tropes; friends to lovers, strangers to lovers, close proximity, and this books had us at my all time favorite enemies to lovers. They liked each other all along but instead of talking like adults they were rude and vile and the tension was THOUGH THE ROOF and OMG some of these spicy scenes were the die for. Definitely recommend.

*3.5

Haeden and Josie are life. I cried more in this book then I care to admit. Right up there with Laz and Raahosh.

You know what? It was good, okay? Sue me

I really enjoyed this story and I didn't hate Josie as much as everyone else seemingly did. Yes, she was a little needy and selfish, but she is also a complex character with a very tough past. She wasn't my favourite, but I kind of like how Dixon has made each character an individual with their flaws and faults. Haeden was dreamy, though I think he was sometimes too nice to Josie and I would have liked to see him telling her to just suck it up sometimes. All in all I thought they were a good match and I enjoyed this story.

I was torn between a 3 or 4 but I really loved the second half of this book!! These books are so easy to read and so addicting! I really really hated Josie for the first half of this book but once she comes around and they start to actually communicate it got a lot better!!

Look I’ve loved every IPB book I’ve read, but this book right here is my favorite if the series. I love a good enemies to lovers. Josie. My girl. I know people have been irritated at how she treated Haeden at times. I get it. There were times I wanted to poke her in the forehead and tell her to just talk to the man dammit. However, I got it. Josie went through years of trauma on earth with foster families and men that abused her. I loved that she was so desperate for a mate and family but was still so scared to accept it. Her reluctance made so much sense. I never blamed her for wanting a healthy relationship to bring children into. Haeden. My DUDE. I love a good grumpy/broody man. Boy was this one more grumpy blue alien. He was a suffer in silence type. After being rejected by his original resonance mate, he was scared to try again with Josie. I will say I also wanted to poke him in the forehead a time or two. If I have any complaint about this book, it’s the lack of communication between the two. The misunderstanding trope isn’t one of my favorites, but damn if Ruby didn’t make me enjoy the book regardless. The scene with the Sky-Claw “eating” Josie. Chef’s kiss. I love that Haeden was like “you die, IM DYING TOO AND TAKING THIS PTERODACTYL BIRD THING WITH ME”. The dramatics this man exhibits is hilarious for someone so grumpy and quiet. It’s one of my favorite scenes in IPB. I find myself flipping back to it just to feel something.

I liked it but nothing as good as first 3 I was really enjoying the series but I think after the novella- they have become predictable. I will try and read at least 2 a month to finish the series but not binge them.

⭐️3 Another solid Ice Planet Barbarian read. These honestly have become easy comfort reads for me, whenever I'm in a slump or just want to read something that I know will keep me entertained, I read one of these book. This one wasn't anything special, but it kept me entertained and the spice was solid.

“This is my worst nightmare. All I’ve ever wanted is a family. Someone that loves me. A happy ever after. Resonating to Haeden? My dream is completely destroyed.” 💙🧊💙🧊

Barbarian’s Mate by Ruby Dixon

Josie and Haedan's story is the typical hate to love story, but with aliens and fated mates. Haedan was surly and gruff because of all of the loss, pain, and fear he had. Josie hated how "mean" he was, but when she finds out how he actually feels she accepts him as her mate and falls in love. It was decent, but not nearly as good as I thought it could be. There could have been so much more sexual tension and angst. However, I also really enjoyed the plot of this story with the crashed ship and the girls in the pods. I'm looking forward to continuing with the series.

1.5 there was plot? but not as good as the one in kira’s story? enemies to lovers is fun? communication that resolves it? v good

This hate to love romance didn't quiiiiite hold the tension I was hoping it would. I never really felt the HATE, mostly just minor to moderate annoyance with each other. It was sexy enough, but all the sex scenes in all the books feel pretty identical. I think I'm going to give this series a break for a little bit and come back to it with fresh eyes in a couple of weeks. I feel like reading this much alien smut this close together is probably bad for my brain.

3.5 stars, overall not bad but I don't think it was my favorite of all the books yet

I was surprised, I expected this to be my favorite based on the last book, but this was just enjoyable.
