Reviews

I wanted to enjoy this book, I really did. Though, after a while it sort of felt like everyone was going in circles constantly. Messing up and then making up, it didn’t really feel like there was a point to the story anymore. My favorite character by far is Cary, I don’t think thats enough for me to pick up the second book in the series though.

I am so confused. I felt like my opinion of this book changed every three pages. I think it's both the characterisation and the pacing that confused me. However, strangely enough, I am still open to reading the next one.

3.75 Stars (rounded to 4 for Goodreads)

wish i could give 0 stars. people kept saying this was the better version of 50 shades so i was super excited but my god. wtf😭😭😭😭 usually i’m the type of person who can read a book in one go, no matter how long. but THIS FKN BOOK. idk if i’m ever going to finish it. i feel no chemistry between the main leads and just… regrets.

This book had me IN MY FEELS. Sylvia Day did a great job of pushing the emotion out of the words and onto you as you felt love, jealousy, anger, and many more emotions as you trailed along the spicy connection of these two. This book is a WILD RIDE. ** FIFTY SHADES OF GREY PEOPLE** I wouldn’t say this book is what you might be looking for. It was spicy and romantic, but if you’re looking for a male dominant that uses sexy toys, bondage and other things, this probably isn’t quite what you’re looking for, but definitely a good spicy read!

dnf 58% I just couldn't get past all the cringe in this book its just too much..

Wow. Okay. Now I don’t know if this is just me… I’m pretty sure it’s just me…so please no one kill me with reader rage but this book made me dizzy… I’m not saying that as a bad thing, although it is kind of bad, again maybe it’s how I’ve been feeling lately, or maybe I’m experiencing my first book hangover, but I didn’t enjoy Bared to You as much as I thought I would, or as much as the world expected me too. Before anyone says I’m crazy or I’m wrong I’m not saying the book was terrible! No, I thought it was very entertaining and enjoyable, but a lot of the events just made my head spin and made me dizzy. For the first time I was caught between sympathizing with the male and the female on both their points that I really didn’t know who’s team I was on. Moving to New York is one of the biggest decisions Eva Tramell has made so far. Renting a fabulous apartment with her best friend and soon-to-be model, Cary, everything is looking up for her. She’s landed a great job which she acquired herself – and without connections, her life is on track and everything seems to be going well. The last thing she ever expected was to bump into billionaire, and the owner of her building, Gideon Cross. Eva can’t help but want him upon first bumping into him, but his attitude is less than to be desired. Apparently rejecting him at every turn is a turn on for him, and Gideon Cross doesn’t give up until he gets what he wants. What neither of them can deny is the heat and fire they have for each other, and beyond all that are dark secrets both of them have been hiding for a very long time. However, in order for Eva and Gideon to work out they need to work past their demons and learn to trust in each other. Eva Tramell should be what all women in their twenties aspire to be. Not tall, blonde and beautiful, but a strong independant woman – in a sense. It doesn’t help that her family is rich and are technically helping her out, but in all other aspects of life she strives to do everything alone and with her own merit. I admire and do like Eva for the fact that she DOESN’T TAKE ISH FROM NO ONE, and that’s sometimes hard to find in female leads. Most of the time they’re damsels in distress who need saving or something that can only be provided by a man… Well the only thing Eva needs is a man to please her if you know what I mean. After everything she’s gone through, the over-protective mom, the doting parents, she needs to get out and do things on her own which is something everyone should strive. On the other hand not much is known about our Gideon Cross other than he’s rich, handsome as sin, and completely irresistable. But beyond all that there lies a different man, a broken man, who finds solace in the one person who can look past his exterior to see what he’s really made of. Both Eva and Gideon have pasts that some poeple can’t even dream of, and they need each other to be able to work past it and come together as a couple. Finally, a novel/series that agrees with me on the whole communication aspect. How much is too litte? Or how much is too much? How much do you want to know about a person before deciding that they’re right for you? Is it right to tell people of all your defects right away or is it something to build up to? These are questions I ask myself a lot and questions Eva herself struggles with. Gideon seems to forgive Eva of her tortured past and yet won’t share his demons with her. I definitely side on Eva with this one – I get that it can be hard to talk about these things but with the relationship these two have…I doubt monsters in the closet will be enough to tear them apart. “Oh, Eva.” He rubbed his cheek against my damp face. “I must’ve wished for you so hard and so often you had no choice but to come true.” This first novel was an ABSOLUTE ROLLERCOASTER, from everything working out to everything falling to pieces several pages later, you really don’t know where the happily ever after is for these two, and I think that’s a good thing. We all need someone to confide in, someone who can see us and understand how tortured we are yet still love us for exactly who we are, and that’s what Eva and Gideon are to each other. They need each other more than they realize and it is my hope that everyone find their own Eva or Gideon in their life. 4/5 Hearts of Love

I did not like Eva and Gideon. I thought it was very repetitive and they both are insane. They had the basic toxic relationship where the dick was too good.

meh... so similar to Fifty Shades the author keeps repeating herself

Romance book is always going to be my weakness, it doesn't matter what type of romance books I read. I've read a lot of reviews on this Series before I've decide to give it a try, thought it was going to nail me hard, I'm feeling anything but. It's not that bad and not that good either. The Problem with Eva & Gideon is, Gideon, keeping too many secrets and Eva's insecurity & jealousy are not helping at all. I've read so many romance books with troubled couples but not as fucked up as this two. But I'm still giving book 2 a try since I'm already halfway through this Series might as well burn together with them. 3 Star from me :)

Read this in one sitting and absolutely loved it

Meh not very memorable, feels like I’ve read it before even though I haven’t.

3.5 I liked Eva. I liked Gideon too I liked Eva more though. I thought this book was pretty good. If you're into the whole Christian Grey, James Cavendish, billionaire BDSMish type stuff this book is definitely for you!

I was hooked from the beginning and just like Gideon & Eva, I am ensnared. I did not want it to end and I look forward to reading the second book in October! If you like a plot with your smut - then this book is for you. You get invested in all the characters involved in this series, not just Eva & Gideon. Just wanted to say, I read a review recently about this book and they poo-pooed it but it was obvious that they were not lovers of erotica. They complained about the sex and how Eva could not stop describing Gideon's manhood. This book might not be everyone's cup of tea but it is definitely mine. Gideon has me straight trippin', boo. :)

i liked this but damn can they go 2 chapters without having some huge fight ? yeah they have a lot of shit to work through

This book is everything that Fifty Shades of Grey wanted to be, well written, engaging, mildly disturbing and scorchingly hot. I definitely enjoyed it and will read the next installment.

Holy Moly! 🥵 I absolutely LOVED this book, found it so hard to put down! Was gripped from beginning to end, not only the sexual tension and experiences from this book that had your mind running wild and yearning for more but the storyline was also eventual and surprising. This is a book that is unpredictable which I love!! So hooked on it and what the future may hold for Gideon and Eva, about to start the second book and I can’t wait. 5 stars all round for this book, so well written! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I DNF'd this at page 50. The dialogue was HORRIBLE. This man is supposed to be the most beautiful dazzling man she's ever met to the point where every time she looks at him she feels an ache between her thighs, like are you for real??? And he refuses to leave her alone even tho she clearly isn't interested in what he wants. Why is he so desperate to sleep with her? I guess that gets explained later but no part of this book was good enough to get me to read until the explanation. This was supposed to be a better 50 Shades but I actually made it through that book, unlike this one. This is actually a 0/5 but goodreads doesn't let me rate that low.

what the fuck lmao be right back on this review too I gotta pull my shit together on what happened here -- ALRIGHT HERE'S THE UPDATE 🤪 first of all... did I enjoy it? YES I DID. dude, it's spicy as fuck, how could I not enjoy it!? but i will tell you this... I HAVE SO MANY QUESTION MARKS IN THIS BOOK. literal whiplash with how things unfolded between them. i wasn’t expecting a grand story telling, BUT i also didn’t expect to be left with HUH?? HOW? WHERE? on some parts. “met a stranger, thought he was hot so i fucked him"--this is obviously how it starts. but there was hardly any build up. so that was a big, strange question mark for me. there were all of these professed feelings—mostly inner monologue and some dialogue—but i literally had no idea where they were coming from?? the writing was pretty good, nothing too cringy for me especially when it comes to erotica mature adult books. it’s just the way things unfold that i have to laugh at. the pace is FAST. I'm talking everything unfolds in like two weeks or something. LIKE GIRLFRIEND AFTER ONE WEEK?!?! SIR??? MA'AM??? All of a sudden soooo into each other after meeting each other TWICE??? Where is the build up I need the tension (there is some, but it felt like insta love and love at first sight without context lmao) and it’s a fun read if you go into it with low standards and low expectations, but if you go into it already thinking you’ll hate it because you think it’ll be like 50 shades of grey, you might hate it. i’ve never read any of the FSOG books, so i can only assume how the writing was without concrete proof. and the issues they face as a couple in this book... look, I loved that Eva stood her ground, but there were times where she just gave in and it felt like such a cop out. like NOTHING was resolved. they just had sex to get over it??? which, HELLOOOOO, obviously i love spice so i’m all for that, but it was really infuriating for certain things to unfold and then for it to be swept under a rug through sex. like PLEASEEEE miss me with that the book was enjoyable if you’re just looking for basic smutty and dark characters. they have sex almost every other page. there was a spell in which sex wasn’t mentioned (LMAOOO) for like 5 pages, but that was it. i’d go into with little to no expectations, and possibly low standards, not because it’s terrible (because i enjoyed it enough to give it 4 stars), but just so that it doesn’t disappoint you going into it. the overall book didn’t disappoint, i got what i wanted from it. i was just mildly confused with how quickly things were changing lmao it’s a dark story, so it’s not for everyone, especially in terms of their mannerisms and how they act towards each other >> look up trigger warnings << and also be wary that this is obviously 18+, and there are also sensitive topics and behaviors here that you might find uncomfortable. if you're not into that, skip this because you won't like it

So this book was absolutely better than fifty shades of grey. It is however very intense & some would even say a little bit toxic. But with that it’s very entertaining & consuming, you can’t help but root for them & want them to be together to work things out. I didn’t see the issues with them being what they were & it’s a pretty hard thing to tackle sexual abuse but I think this author does a good job at that. I don’t have anything bad to say about book 1.. onto number 2..

Love this series- I started it with the expectation to see a lot of 50 Shades of Gray similarities. While that is true- this book seems more refined and polished that FSoG. Although the basic characteristics of the main characters are the same (rich, hot businessman meets beautiful, not as rich woman), I am so much more invested in these characters. The beginning of their relationship did seem a little forced but the rest was fantastic. I’ll take Gideon Cross over Christian Gray any day!!!!! Spice level 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶

Terrible book, even the smut was strange. The MCs act like children; creepy, insecure, weirdly possessive children. This book is an insult to those who have been sexually assaulted. It makes victims out to be weak, mindless individuals who cannot heal without "lOvE" from a romantic partner. Also, somehow being a victim is an excuse for being a jerk. Also biphobia– of course the bisexual character is extremely promiscuous and does bad things to his partner/SO. I don't understand why people like this book. Edit: forgot to add that the smut wasn't even that good

Loved this book! It didn’t take long to really dig in deep with the story - I hate all the build up in stories, I know they’re there for a reason! I just don’t like it. Sylvia is amazing and I cannot wait to read the rest of the series. PS. As I read, I thought I had read this already. But, someone I read on WattPad must have taken inspiration a *tiny* bit from this as it sounds like the Bucky Barnes (Marvel) story Possessed. And that is brilliant as well. So if you’re a fan of this book and Bucky, do read Possessed ;)
Highlights

“Do you want me, Gideon?”
“More than my next breath.”

My body was already lost in him, greedily seeking the pleasure and beauty of his.

It was an intimate voyeuristic shot, one that said more about the photographer than it did the subject.

We completed each other. Even now, as his hands roamed possessively over me, I felt a thawing in my soul, the desperate relief of being held—finally—by the man who understood and satisfied my deepest, most intimate desires.

How would I ever recover if he made love to me again? How would I survive if he didn’t?

I’d gotten farther with Gideon in one week than I had with other relationships that lasted two years. I would always love him for that. Maybe I’d always love him, period.
And one day, that might not hurt so badly.

Petals fell to the countertop like tears.

How deep could a love affair get if you didn’t know the darkest recesses of your lover’s soul?

I wanted him so badly I ached.

I went to him and let him pull me into his arms. It was where I wanted to be more than anywhere else.

Sex as a sedative seemed to be working, and I was extremely grateful for that.

His gasped words were threaded with a hint of delicious agony.

His voice had softened, and it stirred an alarming yearning. “Is that what I am? A problem?”
“Absolutely.” But there was a hint of a smile around his lips.

It never ceased to amaze me how much cooperation money could buy.

His voice was cultured and smooth, with a rasp that made my stomach flutter. It brought sex to mind. Extraordinary sex. I thought for a moment that he might be able to make me orgasm just by talking long enough.
