I really have to learn to stop reading books on audio because my retention rate is... slim. But this was a great one, I think. I appreciated that it's a true story. I should've read the hard copy to better understand the story and its significance, though. (Though the narrator's voice was superb for this work.) Mark this as a must re-read.

I read this after African Town to get the story in Cudjo's own words, and this was so well done. Zora Neale Hurston is fantastic and shares his heartbreaking life story without putting herself in the middle of the narrative. Robin Miles is one of my favorite audiobook narrators and she did a wonderful job. I found the introduction and the appendix of stories especially enlightening.
