I fell in love with this Middle grade series after reading book 1 in 2022 and I have had this on my TBR since it was released and when book 3 was released in 2024 I decided that It was time to return to this series and after finding a summary of Book 1 It was amazing to return to this universe and the amazing Amari and her friends trying to save the magical universe!

Amari and the Great Game is the sequel to Amari and the Night Brothers and continues Amari’s journey picking up right after the events of book 1. As an old villain comes back to haunt them, chaos ensues, resulting in Amari having to enter a terrifying competition known as the Great Game. If she wins, she has the chance to secure peace for the supernatural world. But if she loses, there will be dire consequences…

It’s safe to say that The Great Game did not disappoint in the slightest. This book is just as magical, imaginative, exciting, well written and emotive as book one, The Great Game was impossible to put down once I had it started and it’s a story that you can is was once again a story I could easily dive and get lost in the story. I am continuously wowed by Alston's creativity, sensitivity and ability to create characters, relationships and situations I whole heartedly believe in and care for.

Amari is such an amazing main character we see her struggle with a few issues such as accepting the fame she has received since the previous book and understandably she now has a hard time trusting people. We watch as she tries to open up and make new friends and then how she later handles betrayal.

For this to be a middle grade, I can say I was truly invested and with how this ended I can't wait to see what is next!

This was such an AMAZING sequel!!!! It gave me everything that I needed (except for one moment in the end…but I know it was to made to start the 3rd book) These characters are so freaking good, they are well written and complex!! Don’t sleep on a Middle School adventure read cause this will have you in all of your emotions and feels!! I’m soooo genuinely excited for the next book and hope that Amari gets the ending she so rightly deserves and earned. Just throwing it out there that this would make a fantastic movie…if it’s done right lol
