fascinating discussion of sexuality in the postmodern media landscape significantly cramped by its obsessive focus on neurotic heterosexual male desire (and pedophilia) - i'm skeptical of saitō's diagnosis of henry darger and lament the gaping void constituted by his relative lack of engagement with queerness and queer identification with phallic girls. i also don't really care about anime like that but honestly a lot contained in this work is surprisingly relevant to contemporary media and sexual cultures... it's just very, very straight and could be so much more developed and impactful if it wasn't
