Because of Miss Bridgerton

Bless her, she built tension and had plot points!!!!

Billie and George were snubbed by Julia Quinn of a good, heartfelt story. what a waste of such potential in both characters. I did wonder a lot whether she hate both of them or what? this book really read like a third draft of the real book and served it point as just the opener book in a series. (bad appetizer) also I was looking forward to read some historical background re Georgian era and the only mention was how Billie read agricultural books + managed her family's estate. I would love to actually know of how she worked and poor George was bordering on being useless in this book. give your hero something to do other than moping around of how he was stuck back in the country. and I think Andrew, Edward & Georgiana are the real star of this series/upcoming books because well it clearly showed in this book.

I just love anything Julia Quinn writes.

Finished this one in March 2019 — the second romance novel I’d ever read —and I adored it.
Billie Bridgerton is a damn delight, and an energetic, effusive character. Fond memories of this book, I’ll have to reread it sometime soon.
(My first paperback romance novel was ‘How to Marry A Marquis’ by the same Julia Quinn, and this one blew that out of the water. It was fascinating to see how Quinn’s romance writing had improved from the 90s to 2016. This one has consent, companionship, and rivals-to-lovers romance galore.)

Honestly I need more of Billie and George they're so cute.

Love it !

I LOVE IT. I LOVE IT. ANOTHER.

I kept trying to remember if we ever met the charters from this book in the previous bridgerton series. Besides Edmund of course. I plan on going through the series again to try to find any mention of Billie and George. It was so good and so believable and the smallest taste of espionage was a fun touch.

So much love for Julia Quinn!!

You know, I’ve said I enjoy Julia’s writing style and she does a great job with dialogues between her characters so naturally I wanted to check out the origins of the Bridgertons even if I only really like 3/8 books that I read in the OG series. But boy, this was as boring as watching cement dry. I am very shocked that I even finished this tbh. Its probably because I needed to return it to the library soon. :/ I’m not gonna remember any of the characters and feel no need to continue this series at all. I’ll still give miss Julia another chance though. I’m sure there’s a 5 star book that she’s written for me out there somewhere.

Not typically a romance fan but I guess I’ve found a romance I enjoy. I really liked this. Both characters were cute and there wasn’t a big dramatic fight that I found to be annoying in this book like I find in so many others. I will probably give another book of Julia Quinn’s a try at some point.

I LOVE Julia Quinn's books but this just wasn't up to her normal standards of witty and fun books.

3.5*

** spoiler alert ** 4.5/5 In this book we follow Billie Bridgerton and George Rokesby (who’s families have been close their entire lives) as they start developing feelings for one another after George ‘rescues’ Billie from a roof after she injured her ankle trying to save an ungrateful cat. As the two are stranded for a while before his brother Andrew comes to the rescue, the pair start spiralling at the potential of marriage if they are left unchaperoned for too long. Thankfully, Andrew rescues him and the book continues with a large house party, jealous Billie, jealous George and the revelation of George’s brother Edward who is revealed to be missing in the Colonies. As Billie, George and Lady Manston go to London for more information on Edward’s potential whereabouts, tensions rise and a lot of tense scenes occur (including learning that Edward may be a scout) and the duo finally, hastily, reveal their true feelings for one another (yay!) and the next morning, they already plan to be married as they are ‘home’ with one another (adorable) and literally nobody is surprised, especially not George’s mother. A few months later, they are married and receive news that Edward is, thankfully, alive. This book was a solid 4.5/5 star read, I fell in love with Billie and gentleman George and really liked the way their feelings for one another were so prominent no matter how hard they tried to push their love and jealousy aside. I found this a very entertaining and light hearted read although I cannot give it 5 stars simply because it does not quite give me the same boost of joy as other Bridgertons I have rated at 5 (although I really did love and enjoy this book and will cherish it for a while).

Loved this book so very much! Such a delightful read. Billie was a great character and the romance between her and George was so sweet!

A great start to a new series! I know this series was written after Bridgerton, and are prequels but I so wish that there was enough foresight to use the Bridgertons and Rokesbys in this series in the actual Bridergton series. Even as cameos. I loved Billie and George!

I always enjoy frenemies to lovers tales, and the banter was certainly delightful. That said, the pay off when Miss Bridgerton and George finally got together was a bit of a let down for me. I also didn't really enjoy the drama around the brother's disappearance, but feel it will lead to a future book.

That 0.5 is because I wished it had more spice. In my opinion, the Rokesbys are the less problematic men in JQ's Bridgerton universe. In this story, which is not so much as enemies-to-lovers but same tension, I enjoyed the interaction. Plus, it had that manageable amount of classic "entitled" characteristic that the Bridgertons seem to have.

Highlights

“Who are you,” Billie asked softly, “to decide what constitutes another person’s happiness?”

How did you occupy yourself?" "I read a book." He sounded quite pleased with himself. "I sat in my study and read an entire book from start to finish, and it was quite the most pleasant day in recent memory.”
