Unlike Homecoming, this book just seemed to go on and on.

I don't see why (since later in the story Lillian isn't that much of a big deal anymore) the author had to stress on Lillian and Donald's past life so much. There were way too many details. That's saying much, coming from me. I usually love details, but only when they're relevant or amusing. They were completely pointless in this book, and wasted a lot of my time.

On the other hand, the story was entertaining, but quite typical as well. The ending was pretty much lame, too. I would've expected something more moving.

I also pretty much despised Laura's reaction to the whole thing. It seemed way too theatrical. I have to admit, though, the part when she writes "I love you, Dad" got me teary.

Belva Plain's style of writing is... well, boring. There's not much emotion.
The difference between this book and most other books is you simply can't lose yourself in it. The whole time throughout reading it, I was always conscious I was reading a book. It's not exactly the kind of story you can draw pictures of in your head.
It's generally an alright book, but not worth the read.
