In the city of Eldra, people are ruled by ancient prophecies. For centuries, the high council has stayed in power by virtue of the prophecies of the elder seers. After the last infallible prophecy came to pass, growing unrest led to murders and an eventual rebellion that raged for more than a decade. In the present day, Cassa, the orphaned daughter of rebels, is determined to fight back against the high council, which governs Eldra from behind the walls of the citadel. Her only allies are no-nonsense Alys, easygoing Evander, and perpetually underestimated Newt. Cassa struggles to come to terms with the legacy of rebellion her dead parents have left her, and the fear that she may be inadequate to shoulder the burden. But by the time Cassa and her friends uncover the mystery of the final infallible prophecy, it may be too late to save the city—or themselves.

There were two issues I had when reading this book.

1. I was not in the mood for a fantasy read but forced myself to keep trying as I knew I wanted to review the arc. 

2. There were multiple POV and although it wasn't an excessive number it was more than I would usually like in my books.

This was such an interesting concept and as I've come to expect from Destiny Soria it was diverse which is not always true of fantasy books.

It didn't stand up against her last book but maybe it was the setting that didn't click or maybe it's just my mood reading talking because apart from the POV business I did really like the idea of this book. There was nothing i can say was wrong with it just sadly didn't click. I liked the characters but maybe because each chapter moved between their perspectives ittookme too long to truly connect with them which is always an issue for me with multiple POV.

I do wish I'd read this at the right time for me as I think my rating would have been higher but it was a good book.

This was so good!!! It had some Six of Crows vibes but it would be ridiculous to say it’s a copy. This book was really original, interesting and fun to get lost in....

I really enjoyed this book! At times though, the plotlines were a bit hazy for me, and I lost focus. The plot didn't contain the suspense I was hoping for, but I really enjoyed reading about the characters and their development.

I could easily say that Beneath the Citadel is my favorite book of 2018. It was hard to put down and I devoured it in a few sittings. I got attached to the characters almost immediately, I was on the edge of my seat while uncovering each twist and turn and my heart broke a million times. The diverse cast and their adventures were more than I could ask for and I can’t wait to hold a finished copy of this treasure of a book. 

EDIT: 

Even days after finishing this book, I can’t stop thinking about the characters and the impact they’ve had on me. Each different, they all made me suffer, laugh and feel alongside them. Compared with Six of Crows, Beneath the Citadel was better for me, this past paced book allowing me a deeper connection with the characters, which unexpectedly, won me over immediately. Evander, Cassa, Alta, Newt and Vesper showed me how important friendship, family and unconditional love are. Their trials and struggles felt real and the insight we get on mental health and anxiety is really well depicted compared to other fantasy books. The twists and turns were unpredicted and really interesting and I really wished we were getting a sequel for this one. The moment you pick it up, it’s impossible to put down and the moment you finish reading it, it’s impossible to take it out of your mind. I know it is going to stay with me for a while.

I LOVED the story, writing, and magic system! I for once, didn't know where we were going and I LOVED it! And that ending!!!! Surprise of the century, I tell ya what! WOW! 
I didn't like the character chemistry. I liked them all individually, but when they interacted together they were ALWAYS irritated with each other. And not endearing banter. I was just like, "Why the heck are you irritated now?!" It got super annoying.
