A really quick read. Started looking through this year’s Booker Prize list and picked one to begin with. This book didn’t land as well with me - apart from the protagonist’s health issues and wife cheating on him, I found it hard to relate much to the overall experience in the book. Beyond his family, the protagonist chooses to associate himself with questionable friendships which makes it hard for me to sympathise with. While I get this book is a commentary on middle age loneliness and masculinity, the overall narrative felt abit too removed and privileged for me to fully appreciate.
