How had she gotten to this place of twisted self-hatred? She hadn’t done anything wrong. She hadn’t attacked and hurt someone else. So why was she being punished in this way—shut out of ordinary human activity, all those normal parts of life like smiling, conversation, hellos and how are yous?

Holy shiz. This book. This reminded me so much of Speak, except this one was significantly darker and more detailed. Oh, and that ending was powerful. I've gotten used to subtle "we-need-to-do-something-about-this" messages from other books (i.e. Thirteen Reasons Why and Exit, Pursued by a Bear), but this story just carried a more persuasive and hopeful resolution overall. 

Well this is why I love realistic fiction so much. That was one heck of a roller coaster ride.

well this one took me so long to finish. but then, two days ago, towards the middle i rlly got into it so here i am. it's an important story. and i loved the story within the story. yeah, idk i'm kinda feeling neutral towards it. i'm glad i bought and read it, i suppose?
