Saving Missy

'A touching, deftly written debut that celebrates community and kindness' Sunday Times Missy Carmichael's life has become small. Grieving for a family she has lost or lost touch with, she's haunted by the echoes of her footsteps in her empty home; the sound of the radio in the dark; the tick-tick-tick of the watching clock. Spiky and defensive, Missy knows that her loneliness is all her own fault. She deserves no more than this; not after what she's done. But a chance encounter in the park with two very different women opens the door to something new. Another life beckons for Missy, if only she can be brave enough to grasp the opportunity. But seventy-nine is too late for a second chance. Isn't it? 'Bittersweet, tender, thoughtful and uplifting ... I loved it' Nina Stibbe

What a heartwarming book! I went through a range of emotions as we got to know Missy ranging from being mad at her, feeling sorry for her and finally, coming to really liking her! ❤️

We learn about her childhood and also about her life as a young adult. I enjoyed the layout of this book due to some chapters being set in the past and also some read as letters Missy had sent or received from her family members.

Although the book is centred around Missy, I found I really connected with the side characters! Angela and Sylvie are wonderful and I could definitely see myself getting along with them too! Not forgetting Bobby who from everything we read was the cutest and friendliest dog, making a wonderful companion for Missy who was always feeling rather lonely. 🐶

If you read and enjoyed Eleanor Oliphant, I think you will also enjoy this one! Highly recommend if you’re in the market for a heartwarming and easy read! 🥰
